Saves Lives

By
expanding drivers ed and reducing the number of driving related
deaths our country as a whole will become safer. Thousands die every
year from another person’s or their own carelessness, simply
because they are uninformed on the importance of drivers ed. As
the people of today become more informed on the impact of poor
driving knowledge, they may be more inclined to pursue further
education as well as spread their newfound knowledge to those around
them and future generations. By developing these skills lives will be
saved, lives of people who contribute to making our society more
diverse, lives of people striving to better our world, lives of
people like you and me. However, simply becoming more educated
overall can’t reduce the number of deaths alone. Drivers need to
practice these safety measures. These measures, especially texting
and driving, are becoming more important in our society. As the age
of technology expands, we need to ensure that it won’t distract us
while we are in control of a 2,000 plus pound machine that’s
capable of killing tens of thousands of people a year. To enforce
these guidelines, we need to practice personal accountability, if you
believe you deserve to drive a car around hundreds of other people,
then you should hold yourself to a higher standard. If not for
yourself, then for those around you. As a teenager, you are typically
surrounded with newer drivers. As a result I have witnessed reckless
driving. Other teenagers will engage in speeding down empty streets,
texting and driving, and even hanging out of the windows while
someone is driving. In addition, car accidents have also impacted my
life. My father was in a very serious car accident and as a result
his car was totaled and he almost lost his life. He was ejected from
his vehicle and landed on nearby pavement, simply because he wasn’t
wearing his seatbelt. I like to believe that if my father would have
worn his seatbelt his injuries wouldn’t have been as severe.
Learning from my father’s mistakes, I now always ensure to wear my
seatbelt and motivate my friends to do the same. I make sure to
remember the power a car holds and therefore follow the speed limits,
road signs, and to not text and drive. It’s crucial to remember
it’s not just your life at stake when driving, it’s everyone
around you as well.
