In the Drivers Seat- Sherrise Joseph

The centre for disease control and prevention reported the yearly amount of deaths worldwide caused by driving amounts to 1.35 million people. On average a typical day results in 3700 deaths caused by vehicles such as motorcycles, buses, cars, trucks, and vans. Driving can sometimes be complicated since it involves braking, steering, reversing all at once. It is an activity that is self paced hence the reason why drivers ed knowledge is important. Drivers ed involves educating persons about traffic regulation and laws, safety precautions, vehicle maintenance, and techniques of driving a vehicle. Many persons obtained their licence by practicing driving on their own and developing bad driving habits. Once an individual poses such knowledge, he or she can prevent driving incidents and reduce the number of deaths since they would have been well taught about proper use of seatbelts which falls under safety precautions, impaired driving which means an individual should not be driving if under the influence of drugs, speeding, and unsafe vehicles which means poorly maintained vehicles that could result in brake or engine failure.

To reduce the number of deaths related to driving I believe these steps can be executed. Firstly technology is evolving rapidly and vehicles should now be created with a speed limit cut off, this means that if someone is driving above the speed limit the vehicle should indicate the driver to decrease the speed if the driver does not reduce the speed it should automatically decrease on its own. Secondly the government should implement maintenance laws for example an induvial must have at least two monthly vehicle upkeep to avoid faulty engines or brakes. Thirdly vehicle manufactures could ensure standards are kept when making a vehicle for example all vehicles airbags and seatbelts should be fitted properly and are easily accessible. Fourthly there should be post crash care courses that individuals can take to educate themselves about what to do in case of accident and health officials have not yet arrived at the scene. Fifthly enforcing the law on traffic laws and having severe punishments this means if lack of seatbelt, impaired driving and speed limits are not properly enforced they cannot reduce the expectation of traffic accidents.

I have witnessed my friend driving irresponsibly who almost got himself killed. He was driving a car and speeding, he tried to overtake a truck whilst a bus was coming straight ahead. I swear that was the end of his life. When he saw the bus ahead, he quickly pressed the brake and went back behind of the truck. I later spoked to him about this behaviour and explained the importance of driving safely on the road. To be a better and safe driver and to help others become safer on the road the public and I can continue educating ourselves about driving for example continuously reviewing traffic signs and laws, ensuring that we are always wearing seatbelts and driving within the speed limit, learning our vehicle safety features, overcoming any bad behaviour that we might have developed, and keep on practicing. It is never to late to learn something new.
