Driving Responsibly

Drivers ed is important in reducing accident deaths in particular because learning about driving ahead of time help you to make better decisions. Approximately 1.35 million people die in car crashes per year according to asirt.org. If everyone were to follow the law and drive responsibly, then the deaths per year could be reduced tremendously. Driving safely and abiding by the law could save hundreds of thousands of lives per year.

In 2018, 2841 people were killed in motor vehicle accidents due to phones. So the first step in reducing deaths in car accidents is putting cell phones somewhere out of reach, or even turning on driving mode for when they are driving. This would result in a decrease of motor vehicle accidents due to cellular devices. Another step is to drive with someone responsible that will take your phone from you until you get to your destination. Another thing to driving safer is always be aware because being unaware of your surrounding is also a major cause of accidents.

My family and I were involved in a car accident 2 years ago on I-5 driving to my baseball tournament. We were in the middle of rush hour traffic when we were rear ended by an angry driver. This caused my mom to have back surgery and put is all in chiropractic care and physical therapy for some time. My mom lost her job so she went back to school to get her master’s degree in IT. I have also lost friends in car accidents where they were not being smart and following the laws.

For me to be a better and safer driver I will keep all my devices in the glove box so I am not distracted. I will always stay aware of my surroundings such as my rear view and side mirrors. I will be sure to stay calm, cool and collected with my emotions so I can do my part in keeping myself and the people around me safe.
