You Can Never Be Too Safe

I
like to say that New Jersey has some of the craziest drivers in the
United States, if not the entire world. Having got my license a year
ago, I have experienced the horrifying experiences that come with
being a driver – including the time when I rear-ended a fellow
motorist. Although no one was injured as a result of the accident, I
know that if I had not been able to slow down to the speed I crashed
at, someone’s life, whether my own or the other driver and his
passenger, could have been taken. This being said, it is important to
stay aware while driving in order to save lives and reduce the number
of deaths that occur from driving-related accidents. One step I take
into account to ensure my safety, as well as others around me, is to
place my phone in my glovebox. When my phone is out of sight, I have
no intention to grab it, preventing the digital distraction that
affects many teenagers and adults today. Going back to my experience,
although I was only given a ticket that totaled $140, the experience
that I learned was priceless – you can never be too safe. Although
I consider myself a safe driver, I must be aware of other driver’s
actions as well as my own. In my accident, the motorist in front of
me slammed on their brakes and although I was able to react, I was
not able to completely stop my car and rear-ended him. My lesson has
been learned and I have become overly cautious when driving and
especially paying attention to others on the road whether they are
driving behind me, in front of me, or to my side. Overall, I have
learned my lesson and I share my story with my friends and family who
I notice can sometimes become distracted when they drive. I use my
lesson to hopefully inspire others around me to become safer drivers!
