Elyse Press Driver’s Safety
Driving is an essential skill that is now necessary because so many occupations require driving to different areas. I live in a rural area of North Carolina, and I first learned how to drive on my dad’s farm. My father raised animals, and he would grow his hay. My dad would have me drive his truck on the farm while he and brothers put the grass on the trailer. I was twelve years old when I learned. My parents taught me that driving is a privilege. I do not have the right to get on the roads. So every time I am on the road, I should drive in a way that is honoring to my privilege. That is displayed in several different ways by following the speed limit, not getting distracted by my smartphone, and complying with stop signs and traffic lights. I have so many friends that drive without the care of what is distracting them from the road. They carelessly send texts, snap chats, and scroll through social media. I genuinely believe that the reason for the lack of concern is the lack of maturity and responsibility. Unlike my friends, I have had to work for my belongings. I worked hard for my car, and I do not want to be responsible for my car wrecking.
Personally, I have not had any speeding tickets or been in any car accidents. My parents were both in a dangerous wreck, which almost killed both of them. Thankfully both were reached by medical professionals. I think through the experiences of my parent’s car wreck; I want people on the road to be educated regarding the laws and standards for driving. The man that hit them did not have any respect for the law. I want my family and myself to be safe while on the road. Also, I am a part-time nanny, and I have to take the kids to summer camps and various activities. I especially want the kids I drive to be safe while on the road with me. Driving responsibly is vital for everyday life, and drivers’ education is massively important. The videos of victims involved in car wrecks make a significant impact on teens. I remember crying in class from the stories. Teens need to take these classes and understand the importance of driving, which drivers ed does make a positive impact.
