How A Car Crash Changed Me

By Laura Groundwater

As I was starting to learn to drive, got my drivers license, and started driving on my own, I thought that I would never get in an accident; however, it did happen to me. Drivers ed courses are vital and teach drivers the importance of knowing things about driving from knowing the difference between the break and accelerator all the way to how to safely stop a hydroplaning car. Having these classes can be the difference of a car stopping safely and having a fatal crash. Some of the steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving can be as simple as taking a driving course and also going above and beyond and taking classes that teach you in more depth about hydroplaning or loss of control. As stated before, I have been in a car accident, no one was hurt, just a totaled car. But even though no one was hurt in this car accident, it did teach me an important lesson on not taking things for granted. That day I took my driving skills for granted and crashed. The steps I have taken and continue to take to this day is being a better defensive driver, paying attention, not taking risks, and care for drivers on the road. Do not take your driving skills for granted.
