Importance of Drivers Ed

In the world we currently live in, we have the power to take lives quicker than we can create. We play with knowledge and technology like we are gods but, we forget that any usage of this precious gift requires proper education and discipline. Driving is a tool that needs drivers ed because it allows for drivers to properly use a ton of metal without hurting a 150-pound person. Without knowing the basic understanding of the car, it is impossible to use it. We need to know the importance of driving using tires that don’t slide during heavy rainfall or how to properly maneuver when driving over black ice. Also knowing the basic indication of oil and the importance of not driving under the influence are important skills because they are taught through drivers ed and help prevent deaths. Drunk driving is a serious issue that affects thousands of families and drivers ed helps target the root cause by teaching younger drivers’ safe skills that will continue to be used when they grow older. Aside from education we can minimize deaths through use of mandatory simulations before licensing on what it is like to drive under the influence. These simulations can show the drivers what risk they put on themselves and those around them through use of simulations like those used during training of pilots. Another option is implementing harsher punishments on reckless driving because it is equivalent to an attempt of murder, even if they didn’t hurt anyone yet. This will force people to follow the rules or the fear of severe punishment will be implemented for their actions of putting other people in danger. Even though I have no firsthand experience with unsafe driving because me and my family believe in always following the rules even if no one is looking, I try to share the importance of safe driving skills to everyone I know. As members of the community there are many ways, we can promote safe driving skills. We can use emotional methods to convince others the pain reckless driving can do on the victims’ life or family. We can also report reckless driving habits in our community to officials so that proper action can be taken. This may seem like snitching but, the lives of others are at stake and it is okay to look like a bad person if you’re trying to protect the lives of the people of the community. Another step we can take is create more awareness of these issues by approaching schools and places of mass gathering to explain the importance of safe driving. Even if one person changes, that may save many lives. Eventually they will get used to doing the right thing and others will follow. Safe driving skills are important in helping bring peace to the future generations.
