Importance of Driving Education

Importance of Safe Driving

Drivers ed is an important subject, but it seems a lot of people these days tend to forget or take driving for granted. Driving may seem simple in the beginning but while driving there will be many different situations the driver may be placed in. it is important to learn the vehicle controls and how to operate the different settings within a car but equally as important to learn such as driving at night, in rain, or on busy interstates.

I believe the first step needed to prevent deaths related to driving is to remove all distractions meaning anything that could prevent you from focusing on the car or road in front of you. When driving a car, your eyes should always be forward on the road not looking backwards or looking down on your phone. If talking to another person or hearing music bothers you then turn those off.

The second step is to follow the rules on the road meaning pay attention to the signs around you; if there is a stop sign then stop the car, if the speed limit says 50 then don’t go over 50. I see many instances where there is a stop sign in a small neighborhood, some cars don’t even bother to stop because they don’t see other cars around them so they think it is safe to just drive past the stop sign.

The final step is to remain calm while driving. Some people tend to get nervous because they don’t have much experience and will panic in certain situations. If you are lost or don’t know where you are going, drive the car slowly or just stop completely on the side of the road. I remember a time when I was with a friend of mine who drove me to go shopping. We were going up a slope and there were many cars behind us; I guess because he heard several honking noises, he panicked a little bit and instead of turning left he kept going forward and drove into a parking lot. It happened so suddenly and fast; at the time the parking lot we drove into had no cars or pedestrians, so I believe we were very lucky. If there were people around the area, then we would’ve done harm to others.

The best that I can do to become a safer driver is to eliminate any distractions in the car, wear my seatbelt, adjust the mirrors, and pay close attention to any signs on the road. In terms of helping others become a safer driver, I can either raise awareness of drivers ed or be a better role model while driving meaning if I or anyone else set an example then others around them will follow their example.
