Irresponsible driving resulting in death is a major problem in the US that could be prevented if all drivers were provided with proper driving education. I was a part of a drivers ed program that my school offered and it personally helped me a lot. It not only helped me to learn how to drive, but it also taught me all the rules of the road, the best ways to follow them, and the importance of following them. This program explained the issues with irresponsible driving and it still motivates me to drive safely. I believe that being in that class puts me at a lower risk for being in a dangerous accident but only because I chose to take the principles taught to me seriously. Drivers ed could lessen the number of car deaths because I believe that both knowing the rules of the road and the implications of not following them can be good lessons. Most driving accidents happen because drivers choose to not follow the rules. This could either cause irresponsible driving or a miscommunication between other drivers. Both of these can be very dangerous alone, but if they are put together, the situation could be lethal. Speed limits are put in place for everyone’s safety and breaking them is not only against the law, but it also puts them and everyone else on the road in danger. Another thing that could reduce the number of deaths is the use of signal blinkers. Not using them can cause miscommunications between drivers. These miscommunications can cause serious problems that could be lethal. I always make sure to follow these simple rules to keep everyone on the road safe. I have been driving for nearly two years and I have not had an accident. I am proud of this feat and work to continue this streak by continuing to follow the rules. While I have not been in an accident myself, I have had several friends get in car accidents and other friends tell me about their reckless driving. While not all the wrecks were my friend’s fault, I do try to give my friends driving advance and tell them that their reckless driving practices are problematic. While they may not follow my advice I believe that pointing out that their faults might help them change and become safer drivers. Awareness is the first step to fixing a problem. Awareness is also a fix to the problem of deaths while driving. If drivers can stay aware while on the road they can drive safer. Drivers ed programs can help teach awareness which is an important skill to have while driving. These programs are extremely important and I believe that more people should invest in them so that it might lead to the most important thing, the saving of lives.
