Driving is More Than Just Moving A Steering Wheel

Driving is seen as a normal part of the day, but driving is more dangerous than flying in an airplane! It’s seen as a necessity so people take driving education in order to learn how to drive. However, many drivers get into fatal car accidents. Therefore, I believe driving education does educate the students on how to handle dangerous situations such as skidding and the repercussions of drunk driving. But it does not teach the students a lesson since teens are the age group most likely to drive drunk.

I believe if cars had two built in features it would help save lives. One feature could be where the car can measure the level of alcohol in a car from the smell of it, it could notify the police. The police would then know the exact location of the car and be able to stop a car crash due to drunk driving. Another feature could be where after you turn on your ignition, the driver has to put their phone in a compartment in the dashboard so that the driver is not tempted to text or call as they are driving. Now if the car got into a crash then this compartment would automatically open in case the passengers or the driver are still alive to call 911.

The second feature would really calm me down since when my aunt drives she won’t be tempted to text. Sometimes I’m afraid that she will forget that she is driving as she is texting and then she will crash. In driving we need to pay attention because circumstances can change and we must react to that. Driving is more than just moving a steering wheel.

I also somewhat have this problem. When I am driving I put my phone near the gear change and I don’t answer any calls or messages. However, I use my phone if I got a call or message at a red light even though I’m not supposed to and I put my phone away back near the gear change when the light turns green. A step towards better driving could be me putting my phone in the glove compartment so that when I am tempted to use it I can not because it is too far away for me to reach.

All in all, we humans are bound to make mistakes, but we must make the steps towards not making the same mistakes or else we may end up in a car crash killing us or other innocent people.
