to Safer Roads

There
have been many deaths on the road caused by driving as well as near
death experiences. Now is the time to ensure we are taking extra
precautions to benefit the lives of others as well as ourselves.
There are simple ways we can try to be more alert while driving and
cause less accidents.

Driver
education is very important in reducing the number of deaths because
of driving. Drivers ed focuses on road safety, responsible
driving, increasing awareness, and basically teaching the rules of
the road. This is important because it gives drivers the tools to
being safe on the road. Knowing the rules of the road is the first
step because illegal practices lead to accidents. The rules are set
up so that traffic runs smoothly, anyone stepping outside of that
could cause a crash. Also being aware of others on the road is
important because you could prevent an accident from happening.

There
are a couple of steps that can be taken to reduce the number of
deaths related to driving. One thing that can be done is get rid of
the use of smartphones while driving. Distracted driving causes many
accidents since they were not focused on the road. Remaining focused
on the road is a great way to reduce accidents. Another thing that
can be not consuming alcohol and then deciding to drive. Drunk
drivers claim the lives of hundreds of thousands every year, this can
be avoided if they stayed out of the driver’s seat. The final thing
that drivers can do to decrease accidents, is obvious, follow the
rules of the road. This seems like something that goes unsaid, but
many drivers drive above the speed limit daily. The limit exists for
a reason and going above it makes the drivers more susceptible for an
accident.

I
have had an experience of being in a car accident, it was scary to
say the least. I was driving straight on a road and I passed a car
that was on the other side of the road at a stop sign. Next thing I
know my car was hit from the side and my car had fishtailed into a
tree. I got the story from a bystander that the car had ran the stop
sign and that is how they crashed into my car. I was thankful that I
was not injured but my car had to get fixed in the shop.

To
become a better driver, I will not use my phone while driving. I make
sure that my phone is put away in a bag when I am driving and
encourage my friends to do the same. I also make sure that I am alert
of the actions of others while on the road because you never know
when an accident can occur. I always look for an out in any position
I am in on the road just in case something happens that can lead to
an accident.
