Drivers ed 2020 Essay
Driving
is a privilege granted to many Americans and the gender age of
sixteen. A time where many of us don’t understand the true
responsibility that comes with having a license. Some take
the drivers ed course and some wait
until eighteen just to take the test. First and foremost I believe
that this is a course that should be taken regardless
of the
age of the driver. This is due to the fact that during the course you
get to hear testimonies of people and families affected
by irresponsible drivers. Drivers ed is important
because it stresses
the severity of driving. Without it people would not fully comprehend
that your actions behind the wheel can be life changing forever. By
implementing
an annual
safety course that drivers have to take to improve their
understanding of safety. It would also be smart to reinstate the
course into the high school curriculum. That’s the time that a lot
of people get their licenses and they jump behind the wheel thinking
it’s about hanging out with their friends. As young adults, I’ve
seen people pack their friends in their laps with almost 10 people in
a five seater car. Playing games, music extremely loud, and so many
other reckless actions while their friend is behind the wheel. If the
course was back in high school
and
the administration brought in people and family effects
by negligent drivers, it could assist in decreasing those numbers. I
know from an assembly we had in high school and a mother who lost her
daughter to a drunk driving accident came to speak. She informed us
that her daughter wasn’t aware that the man she got in the car with
was drunk. When they crashed, her daughter’s neck was broken by
some object. The driver ran off, leaving their daughter dead and
alone. This was a woman who had a future that was cut short in a
matter of seconds. This at moment made me realize that my life and
that of the people that I share the road with have meaning. It gave
me a reality check about driving and that making the right decisions
are life changing. I also feel as if there should be rules in bar in
regards to a drinking limits or confiscating keys from drunk
civilians. There are too many people gang her behind the wheel and
take the lives of innocent people. My cousin went to school with a
guy and
in his
senior year
of high school he lost his big sister who was pregnant at the time.
It was due to a man driving on the wrong side of the highway
hitting her head on,
killing
her instantly. If someone could have taken his keys and hidden them
from him or honestly anything, her life could’ve been saved. When
she told me this,
I stopped
driving carelessly. I take my time on the roads now. Driving with my
music at a moderate volume, always wearing my seatbelt, making my
friends understand that my car is meant to get us to our destination
not a place to play and lastly I choose not to drive when I’m
not
attentive. That means not driving while drinking, when I’m
exhausted or upset. That keeps me safe as well as the people me. If
people fully comprehended and practiced what it means to be a safe
driver; the roads would be safer. The death tolls would also decrease
drastically. Americans have to understand cars are deadly weapons,
not toys..
