The Principles of Self Driving

By: Mariah Mauldin

Hi, my name is Mariah Mauldin. I am a teenager who will be receiving her driving permit soon. I believe that there are people from all over the world that have a different opinion on how to drive safely and responsibly. As a teenager it is very important for me and my fellow teenage drivers to understand the importance of a proper driving education. The importance of drivers ed is knowing that when driving on the road there can be fatal consequences if not driving at the proper speed limit, lack of attention on the road, and consuming illegal substances such as the use of alcohol beverages. Many people from different backgrounds and ages drive . Many can be unaware of how to drive responsibly and safely, especially when driving around other people. Having a drivers ed can help influence many people around you to drive safely and responsibly. As a result of this, drivers ed is important for the prevention of serious car accidents and to prevent future deaths on the road. There are steps that can be taken to reduce future deaths. Steps that can be taken to drive responsibly is to make sure not drive when intoxicated / on illegal drugs. You should drive the proper speed limit, focus on the road/ your surroundings, make sure not to look at any of your devices when driving, make sure to use the proper signals, pay attention to road signs, and make sure you and your loved ones are buckled in when driving. Paying attention to the road and your surroundings is very important when driving. Not many people can stay focused on the road due to their technological devices. One of my aunts has been in a car accident due to a person distracted by their device. This caused him to not pay attention when the light turned green and he mistakenly thought it was his time to turn when truly it was my auntie’s time to turn. Then, they both crashed into each other. My aunt endured severe injuries. If the person was not being distracted by his phone then my aunty and countless others wouldn’t have been in a severe car accident. As a teenager new to the open road I will drive the proper speed limit, focus on the road/ my surroundings, make sure not to be distracted by any of my technological devices when driving, make sure to use the proper signals, make sure me and my passengers are buckled in, and to make sure I am not distracted by my passengers when driving. These are the principles of safe driving that I and everyone else should take to heart and mind when driving.
