Safer Roads

Safer Roads

Roads without educated drivers would be chaotic and impossible to drive on. Luckily, most people who drive on the roads today have some form of drivers ed. However, the problem lies with people who have less drivers ed or who have simply forgotten the rules of the road. I believe that if we have more people who are thoroughly educated about road safety, we will have fewer deaths.

I feel that if people are educated on a regular basis about road safety, they will be less likely to get into any sort of car accident. My idea is that people should have to retake their driver’s tests (both written and driving), regularly just as often as they have to get their drivers license renewed. This would ensure that they don’t forget about the rules of the road. More people who are well informed on the rules would hopefully mean fewer deaths due to car accidents or careless driving.

Over the years, I have seen a few of my family members driving irresponsibly. Whether it be texting while driving, or just driving above the speed limit. I feel that both of these things seem minor to a lot of people, however if you are texting and not looking at the road your chances of getting into car accidents shoot way up. The same thing goes for speeding, the speed limit is there for a reason and speeding is the reason why many pedestrians get hit while crossing. You simply can’t see as well when you are going too fast and that greatly impacts the amount of deaths that could be caused from reckless driving.

Some steps I could take to become a better driver are things like creating a playlist before I leave so that I don’t feel the need to grab my phone and change the music while driving. Also, I think that talking with people about their bad driving habits could help them feel a little more guilty about either texting while driving or speeding. I think that if more people understood the consequences of their bad driving habits, there would be a lot fewer lives lost due to uneducated drivers.
