The power of knowledge

Driving is a wonderful privilege many people around the country can do. It can give people a sense of independence and confidence in themselves to operate a full car for themselves. Nevertheless, there are a lot of obstacles and cautions that come with driving, one of these being the potential dangers found on the road. In 2010 alone there were more automobile related deaths than the American Revolutionary War and The War of 1812 combined. This comparison alone shows how dangerous driving can be, but there are ways to make the roads safer and lower the amount of car related deaths. One way to potentially lower the number of car accidents is for people to have well developed education on driving.

Drivers ed is a crucial part of being a safe and responsible driver for yourself and other drivers on the road. Being able to identify and know what road signs mean while driving, such as being able to recognize the yield sign can keep cars from colliding into each other. There are numerous accidents and unfortunate deaths that could be avoided if most drivers take time to know and fully understand the basics and rules of driving to create a safer road.

Some ways to try and prevent the amount of deaths caused by car accidents would be for more people to know and recognize where the road signs are on the road ,as stated above, and the speed limit in the given area they are in. Another way to potentially make the roads safer would be in from law enforcement canvassing the roads and looking for unusual driving behavior. The best way to avoid accidents lies within the drivers themselves. It is a driver’s responsibility to hold themselves accountable for each and every action they take the moment they sit behind the wheel. They should ensure that they are not under the influences of substances that would impair their driving and obey all the road laws.

My family members and friends have been involved in numerous accidents that could have been avoided by knowing the rules of the road, for example my mother’s car was hit while turning as the other driver was unaware it was her right of way. Small mistakes such as the ones mentioned above can lead to nigger and deadlier accidents when a basic drivers ed is absent. To avoid such accidents from happening and to become a better driver I will remove any possible distractions from my point of view, such as my phone, to keep my full attention on the road while driving and encourage my friends and family to do the same .As I continue driving I plan to constantly learn new ways to improve my driving and make the roads a safer place not only for me but for everyone I share the road with.
