The importance of Drivers ed

Drivers ed is very important for young adults so that they are provided the necessary skills and knowledge needed when behind the wheel for their safety and those around them. Some benefits of drivers ed is confidence and responsibility. As an individual goes through drivers ed they must constantly practice on the rules and regulations of the road while also improving their driving skills. The more you practice the more you believe in your driving capabilities so that you may feel more comfortable on the road. Drivers must know and be aware of the different consequences that come with irresponsible driving. As you learn the rules and regulations of the road and come to better understand them you then truly recognize the responsibilities that come with driving, you are more cautious and aware of your surroundings. Being a responsible driver not only ensures your safety but also the safety of nearby drivers and pedestrians. In the United States 34,000 people each year die in a driving accident. The number one leading causes of teenage related deaths are vehicle accidents. Some steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving are being aware and alert, avoiding distractions, taking steps that ensure the safety of others, such as making sure everyone in the car has their seatbelt on, and continuously developing your driving skills. At the beginning of my senior year of highschool I was involved in a hit and run by another classmate. After school as I was crossing the street to go to football practice a student was exiting the parking lot and hit me. She stopped for a few seconds and allowed me to get up but quickly pulled off. Fortunately I survived only with a broken foot but I wasn’t able to finish my football season, not even start it, seeing that it all took place a day before the season started. I was supposed to be a captain and a starter for the first game, I worked all summer for my position for it all to be taken away from me. I had to sit back and watch the season while the girl who hit was able to finish her volleyball season. Distracted driving did not ruin my life but it doesn’t mean it could ruin another’s. Steps that I take to ensure my safety and the safety of those around me are pretty much like the steps I mentioned earlier in my essay. I also tend to check off a mental checklist before I pull off. I make sure everyone in the car including myself has a seatbelt on, I check all three of my mirrors, and if it’s dark I make sure my lights are on. Individuals, especially teenagers should partake in drivers ed so that they are provided the skills and knowledge needed to safely drive a vehicle.
