Safe driving
Today we live in a world where the main source of transportation globally is through driving. It makes sense, it’s convenient, fast, easy, and can get people to places they normally wouldn’t be able to walk to themselves. However, with all good positive things there’s always a negative that comes along with it. Due to the high number of cars being driven every single day at every time of the day there’s bound to be incidents. Unfortunately in our world it’s not just a few, it’s a very large number. Approximately 1.4 million people around the world die due to car crashes, malfunctions, accidents, etc. That means that around 3,700 people on average lose their lives each day and that’s only including the amount that lose their lives not just get hurt. It’s an insanely high amount and it’s only increasing as the number of drivers on the road also increases. Having accidents and wrecks like this happen because of multiple factors such as car issues, road disfigurements, and many other factors. But if I were to choose the main reason it would be the drivers, more specifically drivers who drive without proper training or knowledge. Drivers who are unaware of consequences and don’t think while driving, also known as reckless drivers. It’s obvious that this issue needs to be addressed, driving is and has been for many years one of the main causes of deaths around the world. There are many who get in a vehicle and drive without knowing what all the signs mean, proper turning laws, right of ways, and just overall not fully understanding what it means to get in a vehicle. It’s not just one needing to get to work on time so they speed, it’s something so dangerous that it can completely affect the drivers life or even just other drivers forever, it can even end a life. No one thinks of it as such anymore though, because of its popularity and normalization of driving everyone thinks of it as just a daily routine. Not only is the enforcement of driving knowledge necessary but also the strict enforcement of rules and regulations as well. There are many who know the rules and what to do, and they do it right but there are also those who choose to ignore those small rules simply because it wastes a few seconds of their lives and they find it annoying. However, even a small common rule such as having to stop at a stop sign is often ignored and can sometimes lead to deadly accidents. Big and small things can all be equally as deadly and there are many who choose to ignore the rules and regulations so I believe that having not only more education and requirements is necessary to reducing the number of deaths caused by driving but also having more strict enforcements of those rules. This can be done by simply just having more cops and cameras along not only busy roads but also normal traffic ones as well. The reasoning is because just by having the cop be there or the known fact that there’s a camera makes people subconsciously drive safer and follow the rules because they know they have the possibility of getting caught and that they’re being watched. When my dad was a teenager he was just driving home from work one night when a semi truck attempted to switch lanes but right into the lane where his car currently was. It caused a straight on collision resulting in my dad’s car being railed off the lane and it spun out of control, luckily there were other cars on the road who stopped to help my dad before it was too late so he was still able to be here today to tell the story. So from this story we can see that it’s not just yourself that you have to worry about. You could be driving perfectly but still get into an accident, this is why it’s so important for drivers to learn to look and think carefully before doing anything, no matter if you’re driving a sedan, a truck, a motorcycle, etc. Any vehicle could cause tremendous effects and could possibly take a life as well if not careful. I myself have come close to many accidents due to reckless drivers who simply aren’t paying attention or don’t follow the rules. I am a DoorDash driver part-time and so that means most days I’m driving around a lot, I have experiences many reckless deeds such as someone trying to switch into my lane while I’m there, or someone ignoring a stop sign, driving a high amount above the speed limit in a school zone, etc. Personally, I always do my best to follow the rules even if it’s a slow traffic road or even in a parking garage because I realize the effects and consequences that my careless actions could have on not only myself but for those who are just driving home. There’s always ways to be better though, I will always do my best to drive around or under the speed limit to decrease the risk and make the road a safer place for everyone around me.
