Driver Safety & Education
Driver education is so important, especially in relation to the number of deaths that occur from driving. It is extremely necessary that people are aware of the risks and dangers while on the road. Someone who has taken driver’s education will have more of an advantage over someone who is not educated at all with a proper technique. They will be more confident in themselves, which translates to overall safety for everyone. Tragedies can happen in a split second on the road, so being knowledgeable about safe driving practices is essential. Being educated can help to prevent accidents, big fines or even imprisonment. If every driver took the time to get educated on this topic, it would save so many lives.
Some of the steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving are, teaching new drivers the significance of wearing their seatbelt, not driving under the influence, and practicing safe driving skills before letting them out on the road. I know how important it is to be focused while driving, instead of talking or texting on my phone. While it is hard sometimes, you should try your best to put anything that can interrupt you aside until you reach your destination. It is essential to obey the traffic laws, the speed limit, as well as making sure to not tailgate a car that is directly in front of you. You should also be mindful of the weather when driving, taking your time and getting acquainted with your surroundings are also important factors to consider. You should drive slower and be more cautious when there is rain. Hazardous weather conditions can significantly impact your driving ability, so you should always pay close attention to inclement weather in your area. In order to keep yourself and the people around you safe, you must also be sure to keep your vehicle up to date with regulations and to get it repaired whenever necessary. It is extremely vital to stay calm and alert when being present in the driver’s seat of a vehicle. Being reckless and having aggressive tendencies while driving is inconsiderate to others since it can cause irrational behavior and even accidents. This is known as “road rage,” it is extremely common and serious. Always make sure you are in control of your state of mind. Avoiding getting to the point of road rage behavior can result in limiting your stress levels while driving, saving you money on tickets, and reducing your chances of being put in danger.
Personally, I have never experienced being in a car accident, however I have seen my friends and many other people my age drive irresponsibly countless times. I’ve witnessed many new drivers not pass their driving test or not complete their hours but continue to drive without a permit or license. As a teenager (and a new driver), you should be open to driving with an experienced adult in order to gain more understanding, techniques, and overall helpful advice. The more an inexperienced driver practices, the easier it will become as their time driving goes on. Getting your permit and eventually, your license should be your priority if you plan on driving as you get older.
Some steps I believe I can take to become a better and safer driver are, educating myself on the rules to drive anywhere I go, asking follow-up questions, and doing research. Additionally, I can help others be safe on the road by sharing information I have learned with them, also by being mindful of others while driving, making sure that I am not texting or calling them while on the road. Also while riding in the car with someone, paying attention to not distract them with unnecessary things. Apple has a “Do Not Disturb While Driving” feature on all iPhones, which blocks calls, texts, and any other additional notifications while you’re driving unless there is an emergency and someone really needs to get in touch with you. I would recommend this feature to anyone who finds that they have trouble putting their phone down a lot of the time, it puts your phone on a silent mode where it recognizes when you are driving. I know that it is crucial to be aware of your surroundings at all times, so utilizing this tool on your phone helps you have one less thing to worry about, as a result you will be less likely to be involved in an accident.
It is clear that safe driving is a skill that everyone should know. Doing your research and becoming comfortable in your own capabilities is the beginning of a future with a clean record. Every person on the road can benefit from being alert and aware of their surroundings. We all play a part in making our driving experiences safer, one driver at a time.
