It’s Simple
A turn too fast. Forgot to look both ways. Ran a red light. There are a variety of things that can go wrong while driving, resulting in circumstances that cannot be undone. Data screams the rising numbers. People die daily due to unwise driving. What might be one simple misunderstanding or mistake, can turn into a mess of metal, blood, terror and agony. Driver education is vital to the safety of all who use the roads that stretch across our country. It is critical that drivers of all ages understand and obey the laws set in place in order to save lives.
It is crucial for pedestrians and drivers alike to be aware of typical road practices. By taking this simple step, one can greatly increase the safety of all who venture onto roads. Setting phones aside, making sure you are well rested, not driving under the influence of drugs, looking both ways, along with many other practical considerations are all easy, but important things to remember while driving.
Most teens get their licenses’ once they turn sixteen. My sixteenth birthday came and went. Images flashed through my head as I imagined and reimagined thousands of scenarios. While I have never been in an accident, I have witnessed one and had friends and family been involved in accidents. Getting behind the wheel terrified me. It seemed too easy to make a simple mistake that could end in overwhelming pain and guilt. I finally began studying my permit book and as I worked through the pages and studied, I realized how many accidents could be prevented if people knew the simple rules of the road.
It is easy to slip into irresponsible driving, yet the consequences are heavy. We must be intentional about being better drivers and educating ourselves on road protocols and rules. As a new driver, it is important to be aware and to ask questions of more experienced drivers when unsure about something. By being aware and communicating with other drivers on the road, I can become a safer driver and help other people to be safer on the road. Simply being aware and informed about road practices can save your life, and the lives of others.
