Drive Safe or not at All

Drivers education is a form of education that is highly important for it allows young adults to learn the way of the roads, and become confident in themselves before getting behind the wheel. On average there are about 3,000 car related deaths per day, however this can be prevented if new drivers complete a form of drivers education. While in drivers education a student learns the meaning of certain signs, the correct ways in which to park, drive, turn, yield, and many other important rules of the road. Learning these rules and facts before actually getting behind the wheel allows for an individual to know exactly what to do when in a certain situation, which can often save their lives as well as others.

However, there are more steps to road safety besides completing a drivers education course. One of the most important steps is to remove any form of technology that can be a distraction to a driver. Many people own cell phones, and texting and driving is one of the most common reasons for many deaths on the road. That being said, there are settings which allow the driver to only receive messages if absolutely necessary. Another step to ensure safety while on the road is to make sure that vehicles are inspected regularly, and air pressure for tires are where they need to be, as well as making sure there is gas within the tank so one would not have to stop on the side of the road in which they are in danger. The last and most important step is to never drive intoxicated. Driving intoxicated can cause grave danger to many people for the driver’s brain is not fully functioning due to the fact that many drugs hinder the thought process of the individual. This can cause the person to respond slower than normal, which can cause many deadly accidents, especially when coming to a stop sign, or light.

I myself have been in a couple of car accidents, both of them being the other driver’s fault. The car accidents I have been in were caused by drunk drivers. The most recent one being two years ago, in which me and my dad were t-boned by a drunk individual who ran a stop sign. The individual didn’t even know that they ran a stop sign. Thankfully me nor my father were injured, but the car was completely totaled.

In order to be safe on the road I am completing a drivers education course so I am fully aware of what to expect and what to do. I will practice driving on roads which are not too busy, until I am confident in my skills as a driver. While driving I will choose the setting on my phone so I am not tempted to look at it. And lastly, I will never get behind the wheel while intoxicated, for it is the most irresponsible thing to do.
