Buckle Your Seatbelt, we’re Learning about Safe Driving

Driver education and taking steps to be a better and safer driver are essential for reducing accidents and deaths related to driving. Taking action by taking part in drivers education and taking a more in depth look at the rules of the road will help you become a prime example driver and set a good example for the passengers in your car who may be observing your driving. Now buckle up your seatbelt, we’re going to start learning about safe driving.

Drivers education is put in place and designed to provide both drivers and pedestrians with the knowledge, skills and views for vehicle safety. There was a study conducted that shows that young drivers who have not completed driver’s education are 75 percent more likely to get a traffic ticket, 24 percent more likely to be involved in a fatal or injury accident and 16 percent more likely to have an accident (Lincoln, 2015). This being said, driver education is important in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving as it teaches the driver the rules of the road, including laws and rules you may not have learnt on your own which is critical for keeping the driver and others safe. Not only does driver education teach drivers the basics, but they teach drivers how to safely avoid accidents, from watching out for other drivers to how to avoid accidents in unexpected circumstances such as large animals running out in front of the road. Knowing all the rules of the road will make drivers less likely to get in accidents, therefore reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving as less accidents occur.

There are tons of steps that can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving. The steps mentioned may be obvious, but although they are obvious accidents and deaths still occur from them. Following these important steps can reduce the number of deaths related to driving. Before you start driving, acquire the right attitude towards driving so you know to take driving seriously and responsibly. Get as much supervised practice driving as possible to ensure you’re on the right track. Always wear your seatbelt, a seat belt reduces the risk of being killed or seriously injured in an accident by 50%. Avoid driving at night, the risk of a fatal crash is three times higher at night. Drive slowly, give yourself enough time to get to your destination so you will avoid speeding as speeding causes about 1,000 traffic deaths every month in the United States. Train for poor weather conditions, as bad weather is a major contributor to auto accidents. Although these are just the basic and simple steps to take in order to reduce the number of deaths related to driving, they are important things to remember because many accidents occur from them, but if you are aware of these steps you can cause one less accident which can lead to one less death.

Although I have never had an experience of being in a car accident or seen my friends or family members driving irresponsibly, I have heard about others in my town driving irresponsibly. Friends of friends have gotten into accidents from distracted driving by being on their cell phones, and others have gotten in accidents from driving under the influence. I just ensure myself and remind others to drive responsibly, and I make sure I stop others from partaking in bad driving habits when I’m with them.

There are many simple steps you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road. Although everyone may not follow these steps as long as you do, you’re taking the right steps to reduce accidents in the road. The basic steps include knowing and following the traffic laws to avoid simple accidents. Be predictable to ensure others know clearly what your next steps are, an example for this will be to use your turning signals to show everyone your next steps. Avoid distractions such as your phone, eating or putting on makeup while driving, steering away from distractions while driving are important as it can take just two seconds for an accident to occur. Steer clear of alcohol and drugs, always drive sober and make sure you don’t let anyone around you drive under the influence. A way to help others become safer on the road is to remind them of these issues mentioned if you see them partaking in any of the bad habits such as distracted driving. These steps ensure that you are following proper driving etiquette to make sure yourself and others are safe while driving.

In conclusion, by taking your part and becoming a better driver, you help stop the risk of accidents, and by driving safely you are saving others. With taking part in safe driving habits, you have the chance at becoming a good driver. Next time you’re in a car ensure you or the driver are taking part in safe driving protocols to avoid accidents on the road.
