Drivers education is extremely important in reducing the numbers of deaths because driving results in many deaths on the roads and off roads. When people first get their license in the DMV they first test our knowledge of the road rules and car handling and then take us on the physical road to test our driving abilities. I believe that drivers education should not be limited to only one day of testing, it should be more. Reason being is because many people when driving alone or with companions don’t know apply the rules of the street and it is really dangerous. Many people have ignored street signs and stop lights which have caused pedestrians to be struck resulting in a death or even deaths. If drivers do not have the full knowledge to be operating a motor vehicle that travels at a high velocity then they should not have a license to operate a motor vehicle. It is important to have the education to drive a car in case a spontaneous event happens on the road like a person running across the street or when turning right at a stoplight or a stop sign. Close friends of mine are clueless on the most basic street laws and it is known because I am in the passenger seat of the car when I see them not following the laws. To reduce the deaths on the road I believe that there are steps that must be taken to prevent this. The first step I would take to reducing deaths from driving is to start at the DMV and at home. A test should not be administered to a person who just started driving that first year, a permit should be held for at least 3 years while having a clean record. If a person does not have a clean driving record before attaining a license then one must restart the process and take it seriously. If one does pass with a clean record, then they will proceed to take a drivers education course about the severity of mishandling a car and etc. In doing this it will prepare the driver for driving on these dangerous roads and to prevent hitting pedestrians and other cars. Knowledge is a key to mastering driving and following the rules, one must understand how serious it is to kill someone and the consequences. Another step that can be taken to cause less deaths on the road is to enforce strict laws towards pedestrians as well, if the pedestrians know when to go on the road and when not to then there won’t be any accidents. As well as drivers watching for pedestrians, vigilance is important and should be a major subject when teaching driver’s education. In my own experience, I have been in many accidents and have had relatives who have been in minor and major accidents. I have been in many, I remember very vividly getting hit by a drunk driver on the highway on my way to school when I was young. It was such a scary experience, my dad’s car flipped multiple times and the entire back side of his car was smashed in. The drunk driver was dead asleep in his pick up truck with blood all over his face. With this one of many experiences it has made me more aware of driving on the road and watching out for other people’s lives. Another experience that changed my perspective on driving is when my family member would get behind the wheel impaired, it is very scary to be in the car while all you hear is swerving and hearing other cars horn honk. My question to my family member is why would he risk the lives of his own family and others for his own pleasures? This is a prime example of what should not be allowed on the road ways and why drivers education is a must when operating a motor vehicle. I would also notice how some of my family members would be on the phone while maneuvering a motor vehicle and have hit curbs or have been cut off by other drivers nearly causing an accident. By having real life experiences of the dangers on the road, I believe that it is my duty as soon as I step foot in my car to follow all rules and laws to maintain a safe driving environment. I’ll make sure I am vigilant when driving the speed limit and to tell my companions and family members to keep their eyes on the road constantly. I believe it is as simple as vocalizing drivers education constantly to reduce the number of deaths from driving recklessly.
