Let’s Make a Change!
Let’s Make a Change!
Have you ever lost someone you love to a car “accident”? Nearly 1.25 people are killed in car accidents each year. The number of deaths continues to increase, why have we not made a change to stop the increase of deaths? Driver’s education is something you need to get your driver’s license. So there is no excuse, everyone with a driver’s license has been educated and it is the person’s decisions that cause people to die. Something needs to change, and I believe everyone should have a mandatory driver’s ed exam retake. Just as everyone needs to get their license renewed, your driver’s education should also be renewed. I have personally suffered the loss of two family members due to a car accident. The pain and suffering me and my family had to go through could have all been prevented if a man had decided to not drive while he was intoxicated. That man’s decisions changed not only his life but the lives of the family and friends of my uncle’s. This man is in prison and will stay there because of one bad decision. When you get behind the wheel, you should know the risks of driving. You can be the most amazing driver but it means nothing if someone else makes a mistake that can cost you your life. You cannot depend on others to follow the rules. Driving is amazing, I mean all the new advancements to drive it is awesome to see. On the other hand, why are we trying so hard to make changes to vehicles acting as if the vehicles are the problem? We should be making changes in the people behind the wheel instead of the vehicle itself. A car is an amazing invention, but the person behind the wheel decides whether or not they want to return home safely and without harming anyone else. What I am asking for is difficult I understand, we cannot change the minds of everyone. I do believe that we can change the minds of some people and that will make a whole lot of a difference. If we change one person’s mindset we could be saving two or three lives. I predict that accidents are mostly caused because of laziness. For example, people speed to get somewhere faster, people text while driving because they do not have patience. These examples can cost people’s lives. This being said, me being an inexperienced driver, I have some steps I have to take to keep myself and everyone else on the roads safe. For one, I will be more aware of my surroundings and not let distractions keep me from keeping my eyes on the road. I will follow all the driving guidelines and laws. I will be responsible and think about the lives in cars around me and not just about myself. I will not depend on others to drive responsibly and take extra precautions to prevent any accidents with irresponsible drivers. Changes can be made to make this world and the roads a safer place. Hopefully, those of you reading my essay will persuade you to think twice before you get behind the wheel.
