Effects of Driver’s Education

Driver’s education has multiple positive effects on young students when learning to drive. This class is vital to keeping everyone on the road safe. Driver’s education teaches students how to drive properly and pay attention to the road.

Keeping everyone safe is extremely important because so many people die in car accidents every year. This program teaches new drivers the rules of the road and how to properly pay attention while driving in order to prevent a fatal car accident. Multiple deaths can easily be avoided if everyone had proper training. A rule that everyone should know is that pedestrians always have right of way in order to keep people walking around safe. When driving in a school zone pay extra attention because a child may run in front of your car and you want to be able to stop as quickly as possible. In my personal experience, I have never been in a car accident myself. Although I’ve never been in an accident, I have witnessed a friend get rear ended. This accident was very minimal and there was no damage to either vehicle because the cars were both travelling at a very slow speed. Because I live in Illinois, I am very familiar with slipping on ice myself and seeing others get in accidents that are caused by the roads being slick. During the winter especially, it is very common for me to see cars in a ditch or seeing people slide around on ice.

Some steps you can take to insure everybody’s safety is keeping a large following distance so that you don’t slide into someone’s car and rear end them. Make sure you pay attention to traffic lights in order to avoid running a red light. If the light turns yellow be sure to slow down and pay attention to your surroundings. Be sure to watch out for other drivers on the road that may not be following the rules. Always be aware of when the drivers around you turn their turn signals on because this tells you that they might be changing lanes. When switching lanes be sure to check your blind spot in case there is a car there. If you don’t check for a car you may accidentally hit someone. Turn on your hazards and pull over if you are not feeling well or if you are having car troubles. During the winter, make sure you slow down earlier than usual and leave a larger following distance because if the road is icy it will help prevent you from hitting someone. If your car spins on ice, you should take your foot of the gas and brake petals and stay calm until you stop sliding. In the event that you have a tire blowout you should firmly grip the steering wheel and let the car slow down gradually. Then you should pull over and turn on your hazards. If your steering wheel is excessively shaking or vibrating, you most likely have a flat tire. You should slow down, turn your hazards on, pull over, then call for assistance. If there is a motorcyclist near you, make sure you keep a larger following distance than normal because if someone on a motorcycle were to be hit, they are more likely to have serious injuries. If you stay off of your phone and pay attention while driving, you could potentially save somebody’s life. In order to avoid being in a collision, always pay attention to your surroundings. Keep the volume lowered on the radio so that you can be focused on the road. Do not use your phone because it can be a distraction. Avoid any distractions in order to save yourself from causing an accident. You should always have an escape route and never drive through a bad area. Also, keeping your speed down is crucial when trying to avoid a collision because if you are going too fast you won’t be able to stop in time. You should know the traffic signals, how to change lanes, and right of way. You should always be aware of any lights that come on in your car on the dashboard because some of those lights signify a huge problem in the car. If a light comes on be sure to check out your car before continuing to drive.

In conclusion, driver’s education causes students to learn how to drive properly. This class can save so many people’s lives because it teaches people how to avoid accidents. Because of what is taught, everyone is kept safe.
