Don’t be late, Drive safe For keep sake!
Getting your driver’s license at 16 is a traditional American rite of passage. Driving is seen as a transition from childhood to young adulthood because it offers teens freedom and independence. Teens all over the world have been waiting on the day they can sit behind a driver’s wheel once they turn 16 and, it’s a better experience driving at an early age because you get to learn what to do and what not to do with the help of driver’s education. Although it is known that teenagers are more at high risks for accidents, taking drivers education classes reduces the number of deaths between teens and normal adults.
The importance of driver’s education is that it helps those who may drive irresponsibly especially when reducing the number of deaths. Drivers’ education teaches individuals road rules such as Road signs which display Speed limits and penalties for reckless driving. There have been some discussions about raising the age limit when teenagers should be able to start driving. On the contrary, I believe teenagers should start driving at an early stage of their life because not only they would have a better experience, but they would also have a head start on driving experience when they’re 25. Most reckless driving comes from Today’s millennials but with drivers’ education inhabited within them then reckless driving can be ceased.
Furthermore, the main cause of most accidents/deaths related to death is people constantly being on their phones while driving. The phone is a constant distraction to us, almost like we can’t wait 5 seconds to text someone back or it’s like we MUST see what’s going on on social media now and days WHILE DRIVING which is very dangerous. Not only is being on your phone a distraction having your stereo blasting music can be a distraction as well. According to Shook and Stone’s “The Dangerous Effects of Driving with Loud Music” [Sho19] article, “Driving with the music turned up too loud can distract a driver. Some studies found that loud music can negatively impact a driver’s reaction time, increasing the likelihood of not braking soon enough, or failing to dodge an obstacle in the road”, loud music impacts persons driving. To prevent any accidents while driving from happening stay off your phone, have your music turned down at a decent volume, and be cautious always.
Without a doubt, I have been in a situation where I witnessed reckless driving because of music being too loud or the driver finding whatever on their phone to be more interesting than their safety. Furthermore, I was in the car as the passenger and a good friend of mine was the driver. We were going to the youth fair, and she was so excited to go while trying to catch a “vibe” in the process. She put on a fast song and turned the song up loud. I noticed as she turned the music up, she accelerated her speed in the car. As a result, I immediately turned down the music and she eased her foot off the gas a bit. She began to look at me very confused and I assured her where we’re going does not take that long to arrive, so we don’t have to speed, and the music doesn’t have to be that loud for us to “vibe”. Further, she immediately got annoyed and started scrolling on her phone WHILE DRIVING, and I instantly told her to pull over and gave her a breakdown of the numerous things that can occur being on your phone while driving for example accidents that can be easily avoided just from putting the phone down. This is the number one rule that is taught when taking driver’s education classes, which is why I am extremely grateful for the classes I was able to take.
As shown above, these steps and or key terms are very important while driving and have been proven to cause a lot of unnecessary accidents. Although my friend got upset with me for turning the music down, I assured her it was for our safety and hers whenever I’m not in the car to tell her. I helped her realize how important it is to pay attention and to stay alert while driving. This gesture has caused my friend to be such a better and safer driver, which is extremely good and goes to show drivers’ education is extremely important.
