The steps to being a good driver

The importance of driver’s education in reducing the number of deaths because of driving is people will be more knowledgeable about the road. When you learn something, you pick up bits and pieces of information even when you’re not paying attention. This small piece of information sits in your head so when a situation comes up like the one you just learned then you’re able to apply that small piece of information. When people learn the ways around the road and how to drive them safely, they’re able to reduce the chance of them getting killed or killing someone. I believe that the reason people get into accidents is not so much car malfunctions but more about people not doing or not knowing what they’re supposed to be doing. The more knowledge we have on a subject the better we do as people, so I turn the more people learn about trying and the tips and tricks to driving safely the better people do as drivers. As humans, we don’t instantly know the answer or the way around many things and sometimes we do know a little bit about things are done but that doesn’t mean we’re always right. I feel like the same thing is applied to driving. Steps that can be taken so that the number of deaths related to driving are reduced is by people taking time to learn about it. I feel as though no matter how much you can explain to someone that something their doing is bad it only takes up to them to listen. People will listen when they want to listen and sometimes no amount of education on a topic could ever make them believe different. One thing that could maybe enhance the way people view things is shock value. Now adays commercials water down how important a subject is by adding a cartoon or a catchy theme song so that its appealing to a younger audience. Since I am apart of that younger audience, I can say firsthand that it does not work. What younger audiences do with those cartoons is make them into comedy, serious subjects such as car crashes can even be made into comedy. We need to hit people with shock value, show photos from actual accidents, show people crying, show the truth. Scare these people into thinking. That will have them questioning and thinking everything concerning driving. Most importantly no catchphrases. I’d like to use the cigarette ad of TRUTH, they put a voice over of a statistic sometimes at the end of their commercials. No voiceover, just text. It will give it an eerie feeling that sticks with you. For most of my life I’ve watched my mom drive recklessly almost my entire life. Never wearing a seatbelt, foot long sub in one hand, and on the phone. I’ve picked up on her bad habits and didn’t wear a seatbelt until recently. Thankfully I’ve never been in an accident but to think of the scenario of me in the car in the highway and being hit by a car and being launched 60 mph is scary. And then it also makes me think of the many people who have lost the lives of someone they love because of accidents, and it makes me sad on how some of these accidents could’ve easily been solved if only they were wearing their seatbelt. The steps I can take to be a better driver is by listening to what my instructors and teachers tell me about driving and to always ask questions. Driving is a fear of me, solely for the fact that most accidents happen behind the wheel, and I don’t want to be one of those people that loses their life to carelessness. Ways I can help others is if I am in a car and I see the driver doing something wrong or doing something they’re not supposed to I’d just let them know that they’re doing isn’t right. Another way I could help myself when I’m in the car with someone is by asking questions. For me whenever I see something unusual especially when someone else is driving, I ask questions. “Why do you turn off your car when you get gas?” or “why do you have to warm up your engine?” are all examples of questions not only myself but others use so that they are more knowledgeable about the world around them. Knowing the world we live in, the unexpected could happen so its best to be prepared for things you can prepare for.
