The significance of safe driving
According to the CDC, every single day approximately 3,700 deaths happen due to accidents involving vehicles. The lives of children, mothers, fathers, grandparents, uncles, aunts, etc. are being lost, and a lot of these accidents are caused by drivers who aren’t eligible and shouldn’t be allowed to drive because of their lack of knowledge when it comes to driving. There are surprisingly many ignorant drivers on the road right now, and as more of these drivers continue to drive, the risk of getting into an accident increases. The only way for that risk to go down is for more drivers to be educated on how they should drive.
Drivers’ education teaches a driver how to drive safely and responsibly. It shows a driver the importance of how one should drive due to certain weather conditions which affect the road, it teaches them judgment and what price they should pay for violating the rules of the road, it shows them how to handle various situations that can occur when driving, and many more things that can prevent not only their lives but the lives of others from being lost. Many steps can be put into place to help prevent the many deaths and injuries caused by reckless driving and the first step that should be taken is to learn, to learn how one should drive, to learn about the many things that can distract a driver, to learn the rules of the road, to learn the various signals and signs that one sees whole on the road, to learn the consequences that one can face when they don’t follow these rules, and many more. Another step that can be taken is to impose stricter rules, by making the rules of the road more strict one can begin to focus on how they drive and fix any problems that they struggle with as they drive.
Thankfully I have never been in an accident that could have affected my life in a minor or major way, but I do know people close to me that have. My elder brother has been in an accident where he could have been seriously injured. He’s the type of person that enjoys sleeping late and because of his lack of sleep, as he was driving he dozed off and fell asleep for a few seconds, he rear-ended a car that was at a complete stop while he was going around 50 mph and the whole driver’s side of his car was destroyed. Thank God he came out of there with just a scratch on his arm, but this is a good personal example I can give of a driver’s lack of education. If my brother had just pulled over at a gas station or a rest station and rested for a bit and had something to eat to give him a boost of energy, then he would have still had his car and he would have avoided all the paperwork and courtroom appearances that he was responsible for. My mother has also been in an accident that has affected her physically. She was driving back home after getting groceries when all of a sudden the car in front of her had to stop, she stopped safely but the driver behind her had not noticed what was going on in front of him because he was not paying attention to the road and he turned out to have had a drink before driving. My mother was rear-ended and at the moment she felt no pain because of the adrenaline flowing through her body, once the situation died down and she was safe at home she began to feel sore and started feeling pain whenever she moved her neck, which had never been there before. During the whole lawsuit, she had to go through physical therapy for her back and neck. Thankfully her back healed up after the therapy but unfortunately, her neck had not. To this day as I’m writing this my mom still has that pain in her neck, and as her son, seeing my mom have pain hurts to see. And this strengthens my knowledge of how driver’s education and safety are important.
After learning of these situations and seeing them happen I have come to realize the importance of drivers’ education and safety. And as I continue to learn about my driver’s lísiense, I will take steps towards bettering myself as a driver. Some of these include not using or itching my phone while driving, pulling over if I need to use my phone, not driving immediately after drinking if I ever drink, keeping my eyes on the road, making sure I’m well-rested before driving, making sure my vehicle is kept in a good condition, following all the rules of the road, and many more.
