The Importance Of Driving Safe

Being a teenager who just got their license is one of the most important things to becoming an adult however, it maintains the ability to cause harm to other people. Many people have lost their lives due to the fact that teens, who are uneducated, think they are all cool just because they got their licenses; but that is not the case at all. More than a thousand lives had been lost due to teens driving without having some sort of driver’s ed class. To prevent this from happening to anyone, teens should take driver’s ed at their school. This helps them learn how to drive when it’s raining, snowing, in the dark, and especially the laws of driving that are in their state. For instance, something along the lines of this did happen to my parents when they were coming back from the store. It was late at night and they decided to go to H.E.B to get some groceries for dinner, when they were coming back home a 17-year-old boy who was intoxicated was speeding around a steep curve. He had his headlights on too bright and he was driving everywhere. By the time my parents got to the steep curve he hit them, the boy was okay with just a couple of minor scratches, but my parents on the other hand weren’t. They ended up being in the hospital for about 2 weeks for major injuries, the boy got probation and let off easy. This boy could have seriously injured himself, not only that, he could have killed my parents along with himself in the process. That is why it is very important for teens to take a class on driving. Research has shown that teens who took driving lessons/ classes are 75% less likely to get into an accident, than those who didn’t take a class or lessons. When teens were taking driver’s ed, the number of accidents reduced by 4.3% in one year. Driving ed isn’t only about preventing ways from getting into an accident, which is the major subject in the class, but it is how to drive correctly and not get traffic violations. There are some steps that can be taken to prevent accidents, injuries, and traffic violations from happening. Step one: take a drivers ed class. Step two: take the class seriously, in my perspective teens think it is just another boring class that has nothing to do with driving. That is literally the whole point of it, for instance, my brother, doesn’t want to take driver’s ed because he thinks it’s stupid and useless, but he doesn’t understand that taking that class can prevent lives from being lost and keep him safe. Step three: practice driving with an adult. In my driver’s ed class we had sessions where we could sign up and drive, this gives you a great understanding of how to maneuver a car and the feeling of driving in traffic. Step four: check your surroundings, when you’re driving you are not cautious about the people around you, and that is not okay. Step five and this is an important one, do not by any circumstance do drugs or drink and drive. Tons and thousands of teens think that drinking is cool especially when you are driving, but this has consequences, like what had happened with my parents and the boy who was intoxicated. You could get put on probation, not only that, you could get sent to jail because you killed someone while you decided to drink and drive. But the worst thing that could happen is you could lose your life during that matter, it is not worth drinking and driving. Step Six and this is the one where I see a lot of teens and adults do all the time, that’s texting and driving. Everywhere I go I see people texting while they are driving and people think it’s okay, I mean I understand, you are at a red light and want to send a quick text to your friends or watch TikTok. What some people don’t realize is that you are paying attention to your phone that you might not see someone walking across the street and you go without looking and you hit them. This is why it is important to pay attention when you are driving and to have a driver’s ed class. If not you or someone could get seriously hurt.
