Why the Driver’s Test Is the Most Dangerous Test in the US

Passing my driver’s test opened the door for one of the biggest risks in my life. Driving is a universal skill that the majority of people know. Without driving, transportation would be a large nuance within the world. We would simply be riding animals as was common within ancient times and the world would move much slower. Cars are both a blessing yet a curse and even within the right hands could be someone’s livelihood. Driver safety is often overlooked within today’s society. We don’t talk about the topic as much which is surprising considering it is a more common injury than any other leading categories within our civilization. Many people have tragically lost their lives due to poor driver education from irresponsible drivers resulting in unimaginable pain and suffering for a family. Simply taking the extra precautions to ensure that all people on the road are safe while you’re driving seems like a simple task, but many people ignore it. Simply being able to go out and grab your groceries without the worry of dying should not even cross the minds of people throughout our lives today. Driver’s education must be more thoroughly taught within our society. I believe that it’s too easy to get a driver’s license and additional testing must be done. This would cause a significant decrease in the number of accidents and deaths within our world today. Even with strict rules in place within our traffic laws, drivers continuously recklessly drive causing a risk to others who aren’t driving at the same pace. This reckless behavior has been shown time in and time out to result in deaths within our society and be made even more punishable onto all violators. I have an aunt who, many years ago, got in a car crash. This was a severe car crash resulting in her being bedridden for the rest of her life. She can hardly walk, she needs an oxygen mask, and will never be able to drive again in her life, all due to a reckless driver. I often take care of her on specific days just to make sure that she’s eating well and being taken care of. It breaks my heart that all because of reckless driving she had to change the way that she lives her entire life. When I found out about this scholarship, it was a couple hours after I got off the phone with her which broke my heart. She always encourages me to do well in school and drive safely before I head home when I leave her house after taking care of her. She knows the dangers that driving has in today’s world and doesn’t want me to be a result of a negligent driver like she did. I was blessed to have an excellent driver’s education teacher within my high school named Coach Jones who made drivers education fun, engaging, and simple to learn. He used different games, activities, and projects to help us remember all the road signs, regulations, and simple unspoken driving rules within the streets to keep us safe. I often get laughed at by my friends for “driving like a mom.” This is due to the increased safety regulations that I have put in my mind when it comes to driving. I have never been in an accident, and I don’t plan to ever get in one. I also always take extra precaution when driving. I leave double the amount of room needed within my car and the one in front to ensure that no rear end will ever happen. These precautions may make me drive slower than normal but, as long as I get there, that’s all that matters. Whenever I get in the car with any of my friends that drive too fast it makes me uneasy, and I sit in the car praying that nothing happens. I never want any of my passengers to feel unsafe and I always want anyone in my car to have a smooth ride without any obstacles. I like driving most of the time (not too much with these gas prices recently) and I always want to make sure everybody feels relaxed. With this scholarship money, I’ll be planning to use it for my tuition at nova community college before I transfer into my four-year college at VCU for the 2023 fall semester. I will bring my car onto that campus and continue to be a stellar driver and spread the word about drivers’ education.
