Practicing Safe Driving Reduces Traffic Collision Fatalities
As the number of cars on the road increases exponentially, so does the number of driving-related injuries and fatalities. Every year, over 6 million passenger vehicle accidents occur in the United States. Over 38,000 people lose their lives annually as a result of road accidents, which are the main cause of death in the nation.1 This figure will rise unless appropriate steps are taken to prevent these tragedies. These statistics emphasize the importance of being a safe and educated driver in order to keep the estimate from exceeding 38,000.
Driver’s education provides drivers with knowledge on how to keep themselves and others around them safe by teaching them how to prevent accidents. Knowing the laws of the road helps both drivers and pedestrians avoid taking risks while using the roads. In order to prevent a potentially fatal collision, pedestrians are instructed to cross the street only when it is safe to do so and to constantly look out for oncoming traffic. Drivers are instructed to always scan their surroundings for potential hazards and remove any distractions so they can focus entirely on the road and other motorists in their vicinity. With all of this information, they can drive safely and avoid endangering others.
To ensure that everyone on the road is constantly aware of this crucial information, it would be very helpful if there were a way to periodically remind everyone of the driver’s safety. The necessity of not driving while intoxicated, eliminating distractions like texting, and adhering to the posted speed limit must be emphasized to all drivers. The prevalence of those three factors must be reduced because they are the three main causes of automobile accidents.2 It would also be beneficial to have more advanced technology to enhance the safety precautions already in place to keep everyone safe, such as crosswalks, speed limits, and traffic signals. These kinds of actions are necessary because they will decrease reckless driving and pedestrian crossings, which will lower the number of traffic-related fatalities.
While I have never been involved in a car accident, I have seen my father drive irresponsibly. I believe that after many years of comfortable driving, he now has confidence in his capacity to act quickly in the event of any mishaps, such as a car slamming on its brakes or an object running into the road. He occasionally forgets his seatbelt, which is just a sign of complacency. I believe that having a good example of what to do and what not to do is crucial as I learn to drive. He makes sure I’m abiding by the rules because he knows I can’t respond to situations as quickly as he can. He has a lot of experience, but he has no control over what other people do, so it would be best if he kept himself safe so he could be ready for anything that might come his way.
I intend to brush up on safe driving practices as it will keep me and those around me safe. I’ll be able to manage my safety and be equipped to respond to accidents when they happen for reasons beyond my control. Making sure I practice driving is always beneficial. If I didn’t regularly practice driving, I might lose some of my comfortability and mechanics, which would make me slightly more reckless. I can avoid falling asleep behind the wheel by getting enough sleep, staying alert, and avoiding driving when I’m tired. I’ll make sure not to distract my friends or family members while they are driving and that they are also abiding by the law when I’m in the car with them. It will guarantee the security of all passengers as well as any other motorists. or pedestrians. Fewer traffic fatalities result from my maintaining control and helping friends and family do the same. By doing so, we reduce the number of accidents we might cause.
As new car technology emerges, it allows for safer driving; giving alerts when you’re getting close to another vehicle, back-up cameras, and even Tesla’s self-driving cars. All of these things help with preventing accidents. However, it’s more effective for drivers to be aware of their surroundings and remove all distractions. Each state creates laws for a reason; they are put in place to protect drivers and pedestrians. No one is perfect, but making an effort to abide by these laws and regulations and reminding others to do the same contributes to reducing the number of accidents, in turn reducing the number of injuries and fatalities.
