Reckless Resolutions

I grew up knowing about my aunt’s death as this horrible tragedy, yet no one would talk about the situation, the scene, or even her a lot anymore. Jut imagine how many families have suffered. How many were because of a speeding, technology distractions, behavior, or other mistake? I believe that driver’s education can be a significant asset in preventing numerous tragedies in the future. When a person learns more about the road, and their own weaknesses while driving, they can become a safer driver.

First, I believe one way to decrease reckless driving on the road is to increase the number of speeding cameras on the roads. When a speeding ticket of five hundred dollars is sent to a person by a speeding camera, then caution will follow. People would not just look for highway patrol and immediately slow down. I used to live in a compound outside the United States. Speed cameras were everywhere which resulted in people being more cautious. Where I live in Arizona, people will drive as fast as one hundred miles per hour on the highway. This is very dangerous, especially when a car slows down quickly. Speeding cameras will help to increase safe driving speeds on the roads, and help the police do their job more efficiently.

Secondly, since the world has turned into technology addicts, it would be smart for people to own vehicles that handled their iPhone transactions for them. This is usually done through one’s voice commands as the phone is connected to the vehicle. This operation is a safer and more efficient way than holding a phone in one hand and looking down while continuing to drive. People can admit, even though Arizona passed a law that states phone use in one’s hand while driving is illegal, people continue to take the risk of using their phones. Since phones are incredibly demanding for people’s attention, there is no way to completely stop. Therefore, having a voice command in the vehicle for one’s phone is significantly important.

Thirdly, driver’s education should be highly considered for new drivers. This could consist of a school held class, or a separate session in any form and length. Participating in a driver’s education can lower a person’s insurance, and significantly increase their skills on the road when given the right instruction. I recently participating in a driver’s education session where I learned that it is important to be able to see the back tires of the car in front when coming to a stop. This would prevent me from a possible ram into their car if someone were to bump me. Drivers’ education is a significant way to increase one’s knowledge of how to be safe and to keep others safe on the road.

Moreover, I come from a family that has lost someone special from a driving accident. My father was about twenty-two when his youngest sister died: Brooke. Brooke was sixteen years old and went through her daily routine morning has she hopped in her small car to drive to school. The theory is that in that particular time of year in the morning, the sun would be very bright and almost blind the driver, or where one could not see the road lines carefully. In this blindness, she had crossed over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic. Both cars were met with a hit, and Brooke did not survive. After my parents had kids, and we grew to be able to drive, my father has been insistent on doing what he can to keep us safe from accidents like these. My father bought a family manual truck that all of us used. This is a larger vehicle; not small and compact. My grandparents also offer their grandchildren to pay for driver’s education sessions.

In addition to be a safe driver, it is important for the driver to recognize personally when he/she should not be driving. Personally, I get reckless while driving when I am mad, angry, or upset. I also try to leave early to appointments I must avoid the rush feeling. However, if I am not able to stop driving, or if I need to be somewhere then I like to put on classical music, BBC radio, or a podcast to focus on something else. I believe recognizing one’s own limits is the best possible way to increase safety on the road.

In conclusion, its not worth playing the blame game to see what one could have done to prevent my Aunt Brooke’s death, or anyone else’s for that matter. However, these suggestions to increase safe driving will have a positive impact. I believe that everyone knows at least one person personally or through a friend who has been in a car crash in some significant way. I encourage states to increase speeding cameras in their areas and plead with drivers for hands of technology driving. I encourage families and individuals to think about drivers’ education and the skills they would learn, and to understand their emotions to drive safely. Reckless driving has taken too many lives. It is time for people to educate themselves in their driving.
