Road Safety

Many drivers think like Lightning McQueen “Speed, I am speed” but we’ve got to remember we aren’t race cars we are normal people going normal places. We are always in a hurry and we rely on our cars to go fast and get us to our destination. Driving is a major part of our daily lives. Most everyone uses a car in order to go to school, work, and to do their tasks. What I am saying is cars are convenient. A lot of times we use our cars unaware of the possibility of being harmed. Each year there is an average of 34,000 people who’s live’s are lost in America due to driving. We should be thinking “safe, I’ll drive safe” instead of “speed, I am speed”.

Driving is a serious thing and many new drivers might not understand what they are getting themselves into. Young new drivers may be more worried about what radio station their listening to or what the other people in the car are doing but what they should be worried about is keeping their eyes on the road. When people are distracted while driving it becomes dangerous. We need to pay attention to the road ahead of us inorder to keep ourselves and all those around around us safe.

Most people would agree that driver education is important. After all, it is required in order to obtain a driver’s license in most states. But what is the importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving? There are many statistics that show the importance of driver education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving. For example, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that in 2010, there were more than 5,000 deaths as a result of teenage drivers. The NHTSA also reports that the leading cause of death for teenagers is motor vehicle crashes. In fact, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for all people between the ages of 3 and 34. And, of those motor vehicle deaths, nearly half of them are the result of teenage drivers. So, what can be done to reduce the number of teenage driver deaths? One solution is driver education. Driver education teaches new drivers the skills they need to operate a vehicle safely. It also teaches them the rules of the road and the consequences of breaking those rules. I know that it is scary that it is unexperienced drivers who are causing most crashed but I believe that it is important for people to know the facts when it comes to their safety. By people being aware of the risk of driving, I believe that the chances of anything happening decrease.

There are many steps you can take to be a better, safer driver and to help others become safer on the road. One of the most important things you can do is to always be aware of your surroundings and be prepared to react to anything that might happen. You should also always be looking ahead for potential hazards and be ready to brake or take evasive action if necessary.

In addition, you should always obey the speed limit and never drink and drive. If you are driving in bad weather conditions, be sure to slow down and take extra care. It is always better to arrive late than never arrive at all. By taking these steps, you can help make the roads a safer place for everyone.

When I was younger my family and I had a fun day playing in Salt Lake City and just like all adventures end we went for a Little Ceasers Pizza. There was nothing strange about this day, it was similar to anyother summer day. While we were just about to start making our way back home all of the sudden my sister and I bumbed heads and my little siblings and I were screaming. We had no idea what was going besides the fact that we were in the middle of an intersection and a big truck was stuck in the side of our car right where my little brother was sitting. While we were sitting there in the ambulance the paramedics and the cops said that my little brother’s booster and the airbags saved his life. Both our little Toyota Camri and the man’s big truck were completely totaled.

Later while I was talking to my mom what she thinks must of happened was she looked to see what street we were driving on and then the light must have turned red and we got hit from the side. Luckily our story doesn’t have the same ending that many unfortunate people have and we all made it out safe. From this experience I learned that you have got to be fully aware while driving that even looking away for a split second can change everything.

Safety is important to me and it should be important to everyone. I believe that it is important to bring awareness to driving. No one wants to get in a crash it just happens, but it doesn’t have to happen. By telling people the facts we are able to decrease the number of crashes so that you can go home to your family.
