Driving: The Right Way

Learning to drive can be an exciting time. You get to be behind the wheel and travel to far off places. But some may disregard the knowledge and information on driving and think they will be fine. This mentality can ultimately lead to harm and even death.

Driver education is important when starting out. Learning how to properly drive and how to follow the rules while on the road can positively impact the driver. This knowledge of safety on the road can also positively impact the drivers around them. Imagine you have been out drinking and do not have a great mindset for driving. There are two possible ways this scenario could go. If you have learned about safe driving and remember not to drive while under the influence of alcohol, then you may make the right decision to call someone to pick you up or have someone else drive who has not been drinking. The other way this could go is if you did not learn how very detrimental and hazardous it could be to drive while under the influence of alcohol. You could get behind the steering wheel and start driving but doing so puts yourself and others at risk of getting into an accident. The person who chose to call or appoint someone to drive knew what was the right thing to do in that situation and possibly saved their life and others’ lives. Knowing what is right and wrong about driving can mean the difference between life and death.

Driving can be dangerous when a person has inadequate knowledge pertaining to it. There are several steps one can take to reduce the risk of injury or death related to driving. First, you can gain knowledge of driving by taking a class or doing research. Next, you can make sure you have practiced plenty of times. You could go to an empty parking lot and practice safe driving skills with a parent or guardian to ensure you are driving correctly. You can go over driving scenarios with friends and family and discuss the best possible solutions. Lastly, awareness is important when it comes to driving. Become aware of the number and cause of deaths related to driving.

Though I have not been in a car accident myself, I know some people that may be driving irresponsibly. I see some go over the speed limit, some swerve, and some people cross lanes when there are double lines. These are irresponsible ways to drive. Adhering to regulations and rules like the speed limit are important in ensuring the safety of any passengers in the car and the cars around them. Even though someone might be going slow and you want to pass them, if you are on a double-lined road, stay in that lane until it is safe to pass the car.

Signs and warnings are also important to follow and read when driving. Signs are put up so people know important information like what the speed limit is, where road work is occurring, and when to stop.

More steps can be taken to ensure you are driving in a better and safer way. You can pay attention to road signs, drive at a safe speed, learn about what is right and wrong in regard to driving, and be careful while on the road. Though this may seem like a lot of steps and may be stressful, just remember what you have learned about the correct ways to drive and apply that to your driving.

Letting others know about the importance of safe driving can leave a positive impact on their life, and may even save it. If you have a friend who drives too fast and is all over the road, letting them know can help them improve their driving. You can tell them all you have learned through driver education and what you may have researched about the cause of accidents on the road. If you do not inform your friend, they might end up in an accident. Knowledge of the correct ways to drive can help save your friend’s life.

Learning how to drive is just as important as getting behind the wheel and driving yourself. Learning the risks and causes of death related to driving can possibly help you and others around you to become aware of the effects of unsafe driving. You can use the knowledge you have gained and apply it to your driving to ensure you are doing what is right on the road. In the end, knowing what is right and what is wrong while driving can ultimately mean the difference between life and death.
