Safety of Driving

The safety of driving is crucial. People need to be more safe and aware of others on the road. The importance of Driver’s Education in reducing the number of deaths as a result of driving is to make us more aware and be more safe on the road. We can take a vast amount of steps to reduce the number of deaths relating to driving. As a Utah driver, I have never gotten in a car accident, but I have been in a car accident while someone was driving. There are many steps for myself to take to be a little more safe and responsible on the road because everyone needs to continue improving themselves each day.

Like I said before, The importance of Driver’s Education in reducing the number of deaths is to make us more aware and be more safe on the road. According to Road Traffic Injuries and Death, it says there are about 1.35 million people that die yearly around the world due to car accidents. It also says, “…almost 3,700 people are killed globally in crashes involving cars, buses, motorcycles, bicycles, trucks, or pedestrians. More than half of those killed are pedestrians, motorcyclists, or cyclists” (Global Problem). Many people die due to being irresponsible on the road, and not as aware as they should be. People tend to look at their phones being completely distracted from the road as to where their eyes should really be. There are also people who aren’t aware of road signs that they should pay more attention to. It’s not always you who is the problem, but be aware of the others around you. As you come to a stop sign instead of just going because it’s your turn, be cautious and aware of if any of the other cars are going or speeding past because they didn’t see the sign. Being aware of these things could lead to some deaths taken away. A car accident near my town just happened where a driver ran a 4-way stop and crashed straight into another vehicle. There were no fatalities, but instances like that occur all the time and can be very fatal. Be prepared and aware. People also tend to speed and be comfortable with going an unsafe speed because they either need to get to their destination faster, or in an emergency, in a hurry, or it’s just a habit of speeding. They end up crashing straight into someone because they are impatient or they end up not having enough time to slow down when it comes to that red light because they weren’t paying attention. Us as a country could take a vast amount of steps just to reduce the fatalities that come with irresponsible driving here in the United States. We can help reduce that number in the global number of deaths by taking some simple steps and self evaluating what we do as drivers

Some simple steps to be more responsible on the road and more attentive are in large quantities. People can simply put their phones away or on a driving mode so you don’t get distracted as easily. It’s hard to be away from your phone sometimes if you are addicted, but it could better help you and save someone else’s life if the phone was away. I had a teacher who told this story and continues to tell this story every year to his students as they begin to drive. When he was just a young adult he was out driving. He was driving and was looking at his phone. He was in a large truck, and the other vehicle was a large truck as well. The other vehicle had two people in it, and in my teacher’s car it was just him. He said, “I thought I could for just a second.” You only have a second to have something go completely wrong and then it did for him. He hit this other truck head on and it killed the two kids in it. He was still alive. My teacher could not fathom that he had just killed a person, let alone two because of this stupid mistake. Now that he is so much older and wiser, he tells us this story to prepare us and remind us to keep the phone away while on the road. He told us ever since that incident, he has never touched his phone while driving. I think we could all better ourselves like that, and look at his example to put our phones away while driving and pay more attention. We can also just go the speed limit. In order to reduce crashes that don’t need to be there, we could all just go the speed limit. Speed limits are put there for our own safety. Police officers pull you over for speeding because they want to keep you safe, and the other people safe on the road that could be endangered by this problem. All people can better themselves and evaluate what they are doing just to help protect the people around them.

As a driver, I have never gotten in an accident myself, but I have been in the car when one of my relatives was driving. It is one of the most terrifying things. I can see why they all could be so fatal because they are so dangerous and scary. One time this car didn’t have his windshield completely scrapped in the winter and drove straight into our car and made it so we weren’t able to drive that vehicle again. Another was when we hit black ice and went spinning. My whole family couldn’t tell which direction we were going. One last car accident as an example was when my mother was driving in the winter and someone else was driving on the other side of the road and hit my mom straight on. Due to that impact, my mom had shattered her foot and ankle and still continues to have problems with it 10 years later. It’s not always you as a driver, but we can always better ourselves by being more aware and responsible. I know I could be a better example to my younger siblings in driving by not justifying anything while I drive. I need to always be looking out for their safety, my safety, and the other people around me’s safety. People are important and their lives are important too.

In conclusion, the safety of driving is vital. People need to be more safe and aware of others on the road. We all can improve our driving skills and continue to better ourselves and our driving because of the safety of ourselves and others. We all can find ways to improve ourselves individually and help make it effective on the roads. Remember to buckle up, be aware, and be safe.
