Driver Safe, Cause Someone Loves You
This essay is something that means a lot to me for a number of reasons but put simply I have been affected by unsafe driving multiple times in my life and I have a deep appreciation and understanding for driver safety and driver education and how important both are too reducing the deaths in American due to negligence of car safely and education.
Car accidents are one of the leading causes of death for children in America with there being a car accident on average every thirteen minutes. This is due to a multitude of reasons ranging from malfunctions to human error. In almost all teen accidents however they are due to human error whether it be inexperience, speeding, failure to obey traffic laws, etc, and all these tie back into the point of the importance of driver education. I was taught to drive by my father, however he himself was taught by his father before and so on. There are actual driver ed classes but some families don’t have it available to them or choose not to enroll their child in said class. Families can do a great job however your parent or guardian isn’t going to know every rule in the book and neither is anyone but with more access to driver education, and make it actual education, we’ll have much better access to saving lives cause more people will be informed. I was taught to drive differently than say you were or your friends and because of that we all get different info and what is right and wrong and that makes it so more accidents are prone to happen cause no one is getting truly proper education on it. Having more access to this education benefits all drivers, and young drivers especially, because it gets more safe drivers, who know what they are doing, on the road. With more safe drivers the rate of accidents would cause more problems and are informed about the safety measures needed. More driver education can also help reduce the amount of deaths done from accidents because people become more educated and leads to more and more safe drivers which leads to less accidents which all circles back to less deaths.
This is more of a personal story but when I was in 6th grade me, my sister, and mother were driving home from a light show. My mother was driving and a gentleman in a pickup truck drove 30 miles above the speed limit and hit the back of my mothers car. Our car had spun a full 360° and we were left on the side of the road, he then promptly kept driving away. All of us in the car passed out for a brief moment and we had no clue what had happened. We were rushed to the hospital and lucky we had only sustained minor injuries and a concussion. Later we would find out this gentleman was also driving while intoxicated. Later in my life around my 8th grade year I was in the car with my step mother and an older lady had pulled out in front of us and hit the front of our car because the older lady was not paying attention. This caused me to get another concussion. After that in 9th grade I was in the car with my father and we came down an intersection and this young teenage girl was looking at her phone while driving and ran a stool sign and collided with the side of my fathers car. This caused the air bags to go off and gave me a brush burn on my body from the seat belt. This final story is from my own driving. I was at a four way intersection waiting for my turn to go and a gentleman thought it was his turn to go and turned right and went straight into the hood of my car. I was unharmed however the car was totaled and we lost the car from that. All of these accidents I’ve experienced in my life have all been due to the negligence of others not being informed or given proper driver education on the dues and don’t etc.. If people were more educated and prepared on the road we’d have less accidents happening and maybe my accidents would’ve have ever happened. I know plenty of people who have also been affected by car accidents taking things away whether it be property, lives, or others lives, others families. I’m lucky I didn’t lose my own life or the lives of my family however others aren’t as lucky as me. This is why for me personally drivers education is crucial to driving.
For me personally what I’d seek to do to help this problem is to encourage others to go out and learn more, educate themselves or their peers on these issues and learn more about them and learn more about safety and laws and rules of the road. All these little things that might seem tedious or stupid do truly and someday it might save your life, the life of a family member, or the life of someone you don’t even know. That’s why I believe feel driver’s education is massively important for all drivers.
