Learn before you take the wheel.
It is essential for all of us who are going to learn how to drive to seek an education on how to properly handle the wheel, and to learn the effects of not handling the wheel properly. According to a source named “After Car Markets, a majority of teenagers that have died or been deceased have mostly come from motor vehicle accidents. That is double than teenagers that have died from homicide and suicide combined. In order to greatly reduce the deaths of teenagers that are driving we need to give them an education on how to effectively and properly handle the wheel. This is extremely important because at that stage of our lives we view or experience a lot of things from a whole different perspective because we are transforming ourselves from being a child to a full grown adult, so we must be taught the necessary skills or ways to drive safely and to be consciously aware of the consequences that can occur if we do not handle the wheel properly.
Although teaching teens on how to handle the wheel is very effective, it may not be enough to encourage them to drive well and to be considerate of others while on the road. Encouraging them may be a tough task because they are at an age where they are not able to process, or see information from a larger perspective. What we can do as adults or other teenagers as well is to start campaigns in our local community to encourage teens to develop a lot of good habits on handling the wheel effectively. Doing this will ensure that teenagers are able to look at this subject from a bigger perspective in order for them to vividly apply the information to themselves so that they will be able to reflect and see the message more clearly.
Personally, I have seen my family and friends drive recklessly or make mistakes that can cause any problems on the roads and highways. There was a time when my friends and I were heading to the movies on a Friday night. After we watched the movie, we were driving around town to see where we wanted to go eat to fill up our stomachs after a good two hours seeing the film. When we were about to turn to another road, at an intersection, a car ran past a red light and almost hit my friend’s truck. Shortly after, we decided where we wanted to go, and eventually we got there safe and sound. We were all talking about it because it was one of the most horrific moments we had ever experienced. My friend, later on, admitted that he should have been more proactive in this situation by double checking his surroundings before turning to another road. Although this event may not be huge because none of us got injured, it really does show why teenage drivers need to develop awareness and surroundings of others around them no matter what, especially if there are passengers inside a car. Additionally, I also have a memory when my Grandfather was driving really recklessly on an interstate highway. My Grandfather has always been a terrible driver ever since he started driving. When I mean by terrible in this scenario, I am not pinpointing his driving skills, but by the choices he makes while driving. He always thinks that he is above the law, so he will disobey traffic laws everywhere he goes driving. Going back to what happened on the interstate, my grandfather started to speed up going around 85 mph on a 75 mph highway: that is ten miles above the speed limit.
During the drive he asked me to get some gum from the glove compartment. As I was going to bend down from my seat to open it. My Grandfather stopped the breaks immediately. Thankfully I did not suffer any injury whatsoever. The car in front of us stopped because there was a lot of heavy traffic heading towards the city limits of San Antonio, Texas. My Grandfather felt really anxious about what just occurred , but he eventually calmed down and drove until we reached our destination safe and sound. Ever since then, he drives really carefully and also follows traffic laws really well.
As a result of my experiences when it comes to driving, they have helped me to keep developing skills to ensure that I will keep myself safe on the road and others as well. My driving is not perfect so everyday I make sure that my driving skills improve so I can effectively handle the wheel better and efficiently. The experiences that I listed above also helped me to realize and see through a bigger picture on why we need to have awareness and consideration of others when we are driving. For those of you that are reading this. Learn why it is important to develop skills to handle the wheel effectively before you go on ahead and start driving. It will not only help yourself, it will also help a lot of people in so many ways possible. Remember not to look at if from a naked eye perspective: look at the big picture and see why you and others need to develop these skills to ensure that everyone is safe and comfortable on the road. Learn before you take the wheel.
