Always think twice

You’re driving home after a long day of work you question why traffic is so slow today, your phone then notifies you of an accident that is causing traffic where you are heading. once you arrive home after seeing the impact of the accident it makes you feel grateful that your still alive and for all the warnings that your drivers ed courses in the past taught you what you weren’t and were supposed to do while driving. The drivers ed course is very important for reducing the number of deaths from accidents, it informs people about the things that you should and should not do while driving. Now you may be asking how can we reduce the number of deaths that are caused by accidents? What I believe that we can do to reduce the number of deaths from accidents is advertising no texting and other distractions that occur in the road, advertise cars that are built to prevent accidents, and tell the stories of others that may have been in accidents themselves to spread awareness.

I believe that advertisement is one of the strongest things that we can do to prevent accidents since, yes people are aware that we shouldn’t for example drink and drive, but they still do it anyway, but if more ads and commercials about driving safer and thinking before getting in the car can make a difference in the high number of deaths. A good idea would be during a famous show such as SNL have them say at the end of show how everyone should think before they hop in the car and think about the safety of yourself and others when heading on the road.

Sponsoring on ads on tv can help make the better financial decision of possibly getting a car that can potentially prevent an accident. As the years go by and technology advances so does the progression of cars and their technology to prevent accidents such as self-driving cars and cars that are built to try and prevent accidents such as automatically stopping when approaching a car. Having these options when choosing a car can be greatly beneficial for your safety and the safety of others when picking a car since it gives you a better chance of avoiding an accident.

Telling the stories of other people and their experiences of car accidents and how they have affected others is a perfect way to try to influence people to be careful when driving. For example, when I was in middle school a guest speaker came to see the middle schoolers to tell them his story about him causing an accident that killed someone and how he has to live with the guilt of causing someone’s death because he drank and drove. After that meeting, we had with him I truly believe that his story has stuck with me and made me really think about how when you’re on the road it isn’t only just you but other people, and how something that you think may be small and unharmful may become deadly and cause great harm to others.

Luckily, I have friends and family who drive responsibly but I just because I know that they drive responsibly doesn’t mean others will. My mother was in a car accident once when I was around 15 or 14 years old after waking up in the morning knowing my dad wasn’t home and hearing that my mother was in an accident really scared me as a teenager. Thankfully she wasn’t injured badly so she is alive and well today, but despite that there are sometimes circumstances where it’s not a matter of someone driving irresponsibly but maybe in my mother’s case the person couldn’t see or are tired and so vision may be obscured.

What I can do to be a better and safer driver is to be more aware of my surroundings and make sure that I follow the rules of the road and how I myself can try to make others be safe on the road is to try and give advice about how they should make better decisions and think what would happen if something went wrong it could lead to hurting to someone.

In conclusion, having drivers ed courses can be important towards informing the dangers of driving and what can happen if precautions aren’t made, also some ways to try to get more people to be safer on the road is promoting to be safe ad think twice before driving in ads and tv shows. Another way is through the type of car you buy since there are cars that could possibly help avoid accidents and then also telling and hearing about stories about car accidents on how they happened can really help in making people think about possibly becoming more safer on the road. If by making these ideas more prominent and advertised more I am very much sure that it can help at least prevent some accidents from happening and make our roads a lot safer.
