The importance of driver Education in America
Hello, My name is Trevion, and I like to explain the importance of driver education in America. Personally, why I think it’s important, is to help teach new and experienced drivers that no matter how safe you are behind the wheel and how careful you are, accidents will still happen.
My favorite quote regarding this subject is that car accident are usually not accidents. And let me explain thoroughly, most accidents(despite the name) are usually caused by distracted driving or recklessness behind the wheel. Or maybe road rage. There are different causes but if they were accidents then we would done everything to avoid it rather than be the cause of it.
One thing I grew up taught about safe driving is to keep full attention on the road while keeping both hands on the steering wheel, also keep a safe distance between cars, like 2 to 3 car lengths from the car in front and do not tailgate. Tailgating is an easy way to an accident because the driver in front of you could hit their brakes at any moment, and you may not realize it until its too late.
I lost two cousins and a niece in a drunk driving accident. One thing of importance about driver ed and safe driving is that if you know you are going to drink or have already consumed. Please be considerate of other drivers and carpool or arrange a ride. Those other drivers have families and careers they attend to. It don’t seem like a big deal to people who drink or drive while intoxicated until they get into an accident and find out the people they hit lost their lives due to your choices and actions. And now you lost your freedom because what you do have consequences no matter good or bad. Every choice you make have a consequence whether positive or negative.
One thing I want to emphasize the most is that the way you leave your home in your car, I am hoping is the same way you return home. Healthy and safe. Those are my biggest concerns about driving. I mean due to so many causes of accidents there are now phobias and anxiety related fears to driving due to how risky the function became nowadays. The unpredictability of if you will come home the same way you left is a coin toss. But you can reduce the chances of getting into an accident by following the laws and driving safely and responsibly. I am not saying these will guarantee your safety. But it will increase the odds of you making to your destination and back safely. Due to my health related issues I have avoided driving due to laws around the issue and safety concerns. With health condition is a factor as well. There are people who drive unknowingly with a health condition that could or could not affect their motor skills. Such as vision, memory/cognitive issues and the biggest one: Epilepsy (which I have).
One final point I like to make is, its up to you how you want to live your life but don’t let your choices affect others and ruin or destroy a life or generation that could also bring better into our future. With being safe and careful we can inspire others to do the same. We must be role models and set the example, because let us say we drink and drive with our kids noticing our behaviors. They most likely will try it too. Because behaviors and actions are learned. So, if our kids learn from us and their kids learn from them, our actions that we taught them could affect generations and generations to come. So, what I am asking here is that if you think or if your gut tells you something isn’t right then do not do it or at least think about the consequences of your actions if you choose to do it. Because your actions could have long lasting affects on others for years and maybe years more to come.
To conclude, this is my statement on why driver education is important and I hope some day someone will come across this essay and be inspired to considered helping make driving a safe option for people again. And with that I end my essay and I hope to the young generation if you have a bad influence please do not try to imitate their actions, find better safe and more responsible alternatives.
Thank you!
Sincerely Trevion(also autistic)
