Drive Safely
Studys have shown that seventy-five percent of drivers that do not take an educational driving course are likely to violate or break traffic laws. Twenty four percent of drivers are likely to be involved in a fatal accident that may result in death. Sixteen percent are more likely to get into an accident. But personally, I believe all teens should have to take driver education. They teach many things that just going to take your license test will not. You learn how to drive a car safely and properly as well as be aware of other drivers around you. Speed limits I feel like a lot of people but especially teenagers think those signs are posted as a suggestion. Also, I feel like in every car there should be a regulator so that you cannot go over whatever the speed limit is. I know cellphones are one of the biggest distractions to drivers these days, especially teenagers and young adults. Also, with teen drivers I know a lot of times insurance companies will cut you a deal on insurance prices if your teen has gone through drivers’ education before putting them on the policy. I feel like if all insurance companies required this that the roads would be a lot safer and then these kids would not have a choice but to learn to drive safely. I also feel like we as adults should be encouraging these kids to want to learn more about proper driving and road safety. I know that Apple offers a “do not disturb while driving” if you choose to set up your phone or your teenagers’ phone that way. I also know that AT&T offers something similar. A lot of insurance companies have added incentives for not being a distracted driver if you have their apps downloaded to your phone. When I was about nineteen years old, I was involved in a hit and run right after getting off my night shift job by a coworker of mine. It had been raining, so the roads we slick. The police officers were contacted even had video proof and a tag number, but nothing was ever done about it. Thankfully at the time I was driving a 2000 Dodge Durango and the damage to my car was very minimum. I am sure the driver was on his phone when he rearended me and did not have any auto insurance, I just wish the police officers would have tried to do something about it. They never even called me to let me know anything. Irresponsible driving is my sister-in-law’s specialty. That girl lives on her phone. She is constantly on a phone call behind the wheel. She is always responding to text messages as well as snapchats. We have tried to convince her to put the phone down before someone gets hurt or herself and she refuses to listen to reason. She is extraordinarily strong headed to only be twenty-one years old. I pray that she learns to put the phone down before it is too late. Personally, I do not typically try to read my text and such when I am driving. I also have a feature on my car that only reads text and answers phone calls on my car so that cuts down on a lot of the distractions. I can help others by encouraging them to not be on their phones while they drive because they would not want to accidentally kill someone from their distracted driving. I would tell them that they would hate it to be someone related to them but that is what they are doing being on their phone is putting someone else’s family at risk of being hurt. I have never been a huge one for being on my phone while I drive anyways because I need to solely focus on one thing at a time. It never ends well when I do not, I either miss something important or mess something up so I choose not to be on my phone while I drive so that I do not potentially mess up my family from one stupid mistake or someone else’s. Also, people who do drive distracted are very selfish and only think of themselves because when they are driving that way, they fail to realize just how many lives they are potentially putting at risk of being injured or worse. I will always encourage people to stay aware of their surroundings as well as stay off their phones never know who is watching you.
