Buzz Can Wait

Driving
is a risk that we take every day without ever thinking of the
consequences. Our world is moving so fast that we never slow down to
understand what is going on. With the constant development in
technology is only making things worse. Our brains are now wired to
glance or to look at some form of technology when it buzzes. All it
takes is a second… and someone’s life as they know it can be
over. Even if it is a simple change of the song, when your eyes are
focus you aren’t alert enough to make the best and safest decision
possible.

February
6th, on my way to school I simply went to change a song,
something that I did regularly. It was raining bad in North Carolina
that week. As I was changing the song, no one was around me on the
road, but I did not see a puddle laying in the road. My tires went
over it caused me to hydroplane into a tree. The side airbags
deployed, my head banged against the steering wheel, causing me to
lose consciousness. All of this happened so fast, just because I
wanted to listen to a different song.

Our
phones are just distractions due to the things that they can do.
Drivers ed should help with limiting distractions. When we become
distracted, no one is ready for that car to unexpectedly pull out.
Drivers ed should emphasize the way drunk driving can kill is the
same way how texting and driving can kill. Technology is meant to
improve our lives, not take the right of life away from us.
