Be Aware in the Moment

We only have
one life to live in this world that we call Earth. That is why
drivers ed should be an important factor in everyone’s
life. About 1.25 million people are killed each year due to the
amount of car accidents. Drivers ed helps educate beginners
and those who have experience, in order to teach them how to keep not
only themselves, but others safe on the road. Drivers ed
presents students with real life situations and how evaluate them.
Whether it’s how to properly stop at a stop sign, who has the right
away, the importance of speed limits, avoid road rage or those who
have it, and so fourth. Although this is taught, and students pass
drivers ed, sometimes further steps by drivers need to be
approached. In order to reduce the number of deaths relating to
driving, drivers need to be more aware of there surroundings. Cell
phones should be silenced while driving. The usage of phones are a
huge distraction, especially when driving. More commercials and signs
need to be made in order for people to become aware of the
consequences that come with texting or taking phone calls when
driving. Not only are they putting themselves in harms way, but other
people’s family and friends. I have also experienced family and
friends who have been in car accidents and the damages that they
cause. They are life changing and you can never go back. From these
experiences, I have made sure that whenever I am driving, I silence
my phone and I am aware of my surroundings. I also make sure to
educate my friends and family the importance of being aware while
driving. I have learned from internships with the Genesee County
Sheriff’s Department how important it is to catch drivers behind
the wheel who are disobeying the law. If they are able to save one or
more lives before an accident occurs, they’re more than grateful to
do so. I hope that when I become an officer, I am able to prevent
another person from becoming a victim of car accident deaths. Lastly,
technology runs our world and we seem to be caught up in it. For not
only ourselves, but for others, we need to unplug ourselves from our
phones. One mistake can change a persons life, and there is no reset
button to turn back time.
