Dangers of Driving

Driving has become
such a common practice in today’s world that it is taken for
granted. A new driver is thrilled when they receive the ability to go
places as they please, but the dangers are often forgotten once
people get behind a wheel. In fact, driving is so dangerous that more
Americans die from a car accident every year than American soldiers
fighting in combat from war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Drivers tend to
not realize the severity of having that power over a vehicle until it
is too late. Being educated on becoming a safe driver can prevent
many deaths and save peoples lives.

Personally I have
been in a car accident and multiple people I know have at some point
in their lives too. In my experience my friend was driving and I was
in the passenger seat, a dog ran into the road and the car in front
of us stopped but we were too close to them to stop in time. The
accident was not very bad and no one got hurt, but the experience was
scary and it caused us to be more cautious in the future. Anything
can happen when you are behind the wheel, and most people assume that
if they are a good driver then they are fine, but the fact is that no
one can control everything that happens around them. It is important
to be fully aware of your surroundings especially when driving so
there is a better chance to avoid accidents. To stay fully aware it
is important to stay off your phone when driving, put it away or face
down so you won’t be tempted by notifications. Always keep your
eyes on the road, if you need to adjust something in your car wait
until the car is stopped. And always stay a good distance behind
another car for room to prevent crashes.

Educated drivers
are very important to reduce the amount of accidents and deaths a
year. Being educated in how to drive and how to stay focused in the
vehicle can easily be taught and learned. While most people think
they are invincible behind the wheel it is everyone’s duty to ensure
that they know the risks. It is important to monitor if someone has a
reckless driving pattern and make sure you remind them of the
dangers. If you are in a car with someone and they are not being a
safe driver let them know, it is better to point out if something is
wrong then risk getting hurt.

Having the power to
drive a vehicle is a great responsibility that should not be taken
lightly. It is imperative that everyone understands the danger that
comes with driving and how simple steps and caution can be taken to
ensure the safety of everyone around a vehicle. Many deaths happen
each year due to car accidents, but the numbers can be decreased as
long as people understand the severity of safety to driving.
