New Drivers ed
The
importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths as a
result of driving is very crucial. With proper instruction and
direction, new drivers will create good driving habits. Driving
school should be a mandatory requirement because it explains to new
drivers the rules of the roads and teaches them proper driving
etiquette. The 10 hours in-car with an instructor is especially
crucial because the instructor can correct the student on mistakes
before it continues and develops into a bad driving habit. Drivers
who have taken the course are less prone to distracted driving due to
the fact that they are aware of the fatal and financial consequences
from the lessons and videos; This will reduce the amount of mistakes
made and consequently reduce the number of deaths as a result of
driving.
The
first step in reducing the casualties related to driving is to
encourage all new and especially young drivers to invest in a driving
course. This will help ensure that all new drivers create good
driving habits. Some examples of good driving habits are obeying
traffic laws; avoiding distractions; and driving rested. To become a
better driver, become more predictable; use signals to indicate
movement and direction to other vehicles on the road. Another
important step to become a better driver is to not succumb to peer
pressure. Many times young drivers are influenced by their peers to
not follow the rules of the road; i.e distracted driving, speeding,
disobeying laws. Finally, the last step to becoming a safer driver is
to be very cautious and observant. Being aware of the surroundings
and observant will help the driver avoid any potential accidents
because the driver will be in control and able to prevent them from
happening.
Yes,
I have experienced a car accident. My best friend had been the one
driving; he was a new driver with little experience and had not taken
any driving lessons before receiving his G2 license. The roads were
very wet as it had been raining all morning, but he was determined to
take us to our job interview for 11am. However, we never made it. My
best friend had been going a little too fast and had too wide of a
turn. It was then followed by an overcorrection of the steering
wheel, and in result, the car drove up over the median, spun around a
few times while he proceeded to continue to overcorrect. This brought
us back up and over the median, and he ended up going over the curb
and into a fence. The 2005 Mazda3 had gotten written off and
thankfully no one was hurt. However, I believe the events that
transpired that day could have been easily avoided if he had taken a
driving course and had received proper instruction.
