Driver
education plays a crucial role in developing a safe driver rather
than someone who is only capable of doing the bare minimum when
driving. Instead of developing rudimentary vehicle control a driver
should be aware of all of the laws and rules of the road to make a
safe environment for everyone around. Nearly 1.25 million people die
in road crashes each year. That means there are on average 3.287
deaths in just a day. Those horrific odds could affect just about
anyone driving today. Some simple steps that could be taken to reduce
those odds would be to simply pay attention and know the difference
between right and wrong. I know that phones are such an issue today,
but just turning off your phone for a car ride could prevent so much
tragedy. About 5 years ago my sister was running with her cross
country team around our town, while she was running a woman was
making a quick turn while using her phone and hit my sister. She
ended up on the windshield of the car and her head smashed all of the
glass. Luckily she ended up being okay with just minor injuries,
while the driver sped off and got away with it. If that driver was
going even five miles faster than she was, my sister might not be
here today. Another experience I had was just around 4 months ago. I
was t-boned by an older woman who was ON HER PHONE while driving. I
couldn’t believe between the adult and teenager, I was the
responsible one. Now I am 18 years old and could proudly say that I
have never once texted while driving. People tend to hate driving
with me because when I notice them on the phone while driving I ask
them if my life really means that little to them. Turn off your
phones and please just pay attention. It takes only seconds to let a
distraction cause an accident.
