The Importance of Safe Driving

Every year, thousands of people drive drunk. It just so happened in
2012 my brother was among these thousands. Sometimes people make bad
decisions and never face the consequences, but my brother was not as
lucky as those people. I will never forget the blank look on my moms
face when we got the call, without her speaking I knew what had
happened. It was the kind of news that made your knees weak, your
voice crack, and time stand still. The worst part of the accident was
seeing it. Strangers with their jaws wide open in awe of his mangled
body, the sound of the air med circling over our heads, and what was
left of his truck. Visiting him in the hospital was not much better,
his jaw was wired shut, his neck was in braces, his face was filled
with glass and all I could do was cry. This is just one story of
thousands.

Practicing safe driving is so important. If you have been drinking,
don’t go behind the wheel. Maybe you’ll be lucky– you won’t face
any repercussions the first time but don’t get comfortable because
life can change in a split second. An author named Mark Batterson
once said “You are always one decision away from a totally
different life”. This is the importance in safe driving, decisions
have life changing consequences. In order to make the roads a safer
place, everyone must think before they get behind the wheel. Think of
the way their decision can impact their own life and anyone else who
may be on the road.

The answer to the question of the importance of safe driving is
simple. Life. By choosing to drive unsafely you risk your life. If
everyone made the decision to change how they made decisions, to
think of the consequences their actions could impose on others and
themself then the road would be a much safer place.
