Drivers ed Initiate Award

Driving is a
rite of passage we all have to go through and learn how to do not
only for our safety, but for the safety and well-being of other
drivers. Therefore, it is extremely important that there is much more
of an emphasis placed on drivers ed to reduce driving deaths.
There needs to be certain steps taken to ensure the reduction of
driving deaths. I have a firsthand experience of a car accident and
how it affected me and my mom. I have goals to ensure that I am a
safe and responsible driver on the road.

Driver
education is an important thing that needs to be focused on in the
education system for young people. Drivers ed can teach the
basics of driving and keystone knowledge to be safe on the road.
Drivers Ed can also provide on hands practice and training so
people can get experience behind the wheel. Drivers ed can
provide real world skills to navigate the roads safety and
responsibly behind the wheel. Drivers ed would reduce deaths
because it teaches young drivers how to drive safely and reduces the
likelihood of them being in a car crash.

There needs to
be certain steps to reduce the number of driving deaths and ensure
driver safety. People need to follow basic driver safety rules like
wear seatbelts and focus on the road. There also needs to be a no
tolerance for drunk driving and other distractions while driving.
Drivers Ed also needs to be put back in more schools and have a
higher emphasis placed on its importance.

This issue is
quite relevant to me, because mom has experienced a few car crashes.
However, one thing she was in a crash, I was with her. The incident
occurred at night when me and my mom were going somewhere. When we
stopped at a red light, there was a van in front of us. While we were
waiting behind the van, suddenly the van went into reverse and rammed
us in the front. This event was quite traumatizing due to how quick
it happened. After the crash, my mom and the lady who hit us talked,
and then we left to go to our destination. My mom wasn’t able to
contact the lady again so no further action was taken. My mother
should’ve called the police, but there’s no point in dwelling on
what should’ve happened. This event showed me how dangerous car
crashes can be even minor ones.

I’ve heard of
many car crashes in my lifetime especially those involving teens.
Driving is dangerous, regardless if one is a safe driver, because
other drivers can be unpredictable and reckless. One can only follow
the rules and use their own discretion when driving. I am currently
eighteen and have my learner’s permit and hope to get my license this
year. I have a few goals to ensure that I’m a responsible and safe
driver. I won’t use my phone at all while driving. If it’s an
important call, I’ll pull over and park hen answer the phone. I won’t
be under the influence of drugs or alcohol or eat while driving. I’ll
follow every rule like obeying speed limits, signs, and traffic
lights. I’ll also be considerate of others’ safety and won’t drive
reckless to prevent accidents. I intend to follow through with these
goals and be the best driver I can be and reduce the number of
driving deaths.
