Putting a Stop to Dangerous Driving

Driving has become a
task in our country that is so great, and helps make one’s day much
more efficient, but can become so dangerous very quickly. Drivers
education is the first step that everyone takes to receive their
license. This program is extremely important, for it teaches the laws
and rules to drive, how to drive, and how to avoid the worst outcome
from driving: death. Drivers ed teaches us to always be aware
of your surroundings and teaches everyone how to be safe drivers to
avoid crashes. This immensely helps reduce the amount of deaths
caused by driving because it gives everyone a strong foundation on
how to be a safe driver and protect themselves and everyone else on
the road. However, there are many other steps that we can take in
order to reduce the number of deaths caused by driving: staying off
our phones when driving, practicing defensive driving, following the
road laws of stopping at stop signs, using your blinkers, etc, having
our seat belts on. These are just a few ways that we can help reduce
the amount of deaths that are caused by driving. I personally have
had the experience of being in a car accident, where my friend’s
mom was driving and my friend and I were in the back of the car. We
were stopped at a red light, and the car behind us was not paying
attention and rear-ended us. She was on her phone and had not
realized that the light was red. Luckily for us, we were in a very
large car so there was not much damage done to the vehicle or us
(other than a few cries from how scared we were of the idea of being
in a wreck). However, the girl’s car was completely wrecked, and if
she would have been going any faster she could have seriously hurt
herself. I personally can improve on being a safer driver by having
my music lower in my car to hear other cars or sirens, and I can
drive slower on highways to help ensure my safety and the safety of
everyone else on the road. I can also keep my friends accountable by
making sure they stay off their phones while driving, and if they
need help with directions on their phone to take charge of the
directions and tell them where they need to go. Safe driving is in
our hands; we were given a good foundation of driving and now we have
the ability to choose safe driving: we must put a stop to dangerous
driving.
