Drivers ed
importance

The importance of driver’s
education in high schools is important because students tend to learn
more in a school setting than private driving companies. When
students take drivers ed in a high school setting, not only is
it just the class, but also using the simulator and being behind the
wheel. Drivers ed classes are taught by teachers that required
them to go to college and get an endorsement in it versus a private
company that does not require endorsement to teach people how to
drive. Taking Drivers ed in a school setting helps students learn
more tips on driving safely, videos of accidents, and driving in
weather conditions.

There are steps that need to
be taken in order to reduce deaths related to driving. One is to make
texting illegal in all 50 states. Texting while driving is unsafe
because you are looking at the screen versus on the road. Second, is
to have insurance car companies offer incentives to customers for
driving safely. Third is to have back up camera in all the newer cars
so that people look what is behind them. A back up camera helps the
person not get too close to the car and help assist in parallel
parking. Fourth is to do campaigns on safe driving to let the
community know how the importance of driving safely. This consist of
tabling, watching videos, and doing a month-long safe driving
awareness. Fifth is to mandate all high schools to have students
take drivers ed in all 50 states. This will help students know
how to drive, prevent accidents, and why driving safe is important.

One of my cousins died in a
car accident back in May 21, 2009 because he went to a bar with his
friends. His friends were drinking too much alcohol and had one
designated driver drive while intoxicated. The designated driver, who
was intoxicated crashed into a cement truck in the express way. My
cousin did not have a seat belt on and when the car crashed into the
cement truck, he flew off the car and ended up in the cement truck.
This was a huge blow to his family. He was only a couple of months
away from graduating UTI (Universal Technical Institute). This was a
message to make sure to have a designated driver, who will not drink
or think of alternatives of getting home safe. This is to also inform
the community that driving while intoxicated can lead to DUI and
endangering the lives of others.

There are a couple of steps I
will take in order to become a safer driver. One is I will not text
while I am driving. Second is to have lights on if I am driving in
the night. Third is to be the designated driver in case the actual
driver gets intoxicated. Third is to put on turning signal lights
before turning. Lastly, have a back-up camera in the vehicle.
