The Importance of Safe Driving
Importance
of Safe Driving
When I first
started driving, I thought it was such a waste of my time to take
driving classes and to wait so long to get my full license. I thought
I was invincible and that driving was simple. The more I drove, the
more I learned that driving is a big responsibility that requires
seriousness and concentration. I remember one time when I was driving
and I wanted to change a song on my phone because I figured it would
only take a second and would not be dangerous. By the time I looked
back up, my truck had started to veer into the next lane. Luckily, no
one was driving next to me, but that experience showed me that I need
to take driving more seriously and not get distracted.
Drivers ed is
important because it can teach new drivers the importance of limiting
risk factors when on the road. Limiting risk factors results in a
decrease of driving accidents, thus reducing the number of deaths.
The number of deaths caused by driving could possibly be limited by
more in-depth drivers ed courses. However, there would still be
people who drove irresponsibly due to distractions. I think an
effective way of limiting distracted driving would be putting a
sensor on phones that would turn them off when a person is driving.
This would reduce the temptation to be on the phone when someone is
driving, and would limit driving related deaths.
Many teenagers
drive irresponsibly for fun or to seem cool around their friends. I
have seen many of my friends drive irresponsibly by breaking the
speed limit or by texting and driving. Although I am guilty of doing
those things as well, I have tried to limit my driving risk factors
by putting my phone somewhere where I cannot reach it when I am
driving. I am also more conscious about how fast I am driving and any
other risky behavior when driving. Whenever I see my friends or
family members on their phones, I offer to text or to change the
music for them so that they will not put the members of the car at
risk. There should be more of an emphasis on driver safety because it
can limit the number of car accidents, and ultimately, can save
lives.
