Driving is about responsibility!

Driving is about
responsibility!

As
easy as it may seem to drive a car people tend to forget the amount
of responsibility it requires. Being able to drive was an experience
that always scared me because of a bad accident I will later
describe. However, I am living proof that driving can be incredibly
fun when everyone remains safe. Drivers ed is highly important
for not only the safety of the drivers themselves but also the
bystanders. Multiple people have died at the hands of a bad driver
even if they were just a passenger or a pedestrian. According to the
Association for Safe International Road Travel, about 1.25 million
lives are lost every year because of road crashes. Drivers ed
can help make drivers and pedestrians more knowledgeable of the
skills and attitudes needed for vehicle safety thus shorting the
number of lives lost globally.

Easy steps such as always making
sure that full attention is on the road without impairment of drugs
or alcohol, keeping a seatbelt at all times, and not multitasking
while driving can be taken to make the roads safer. My brother once
failed to take one of these steps and put both our lives in danger
considering he was driving on a rainy night while using his phone.
Police were called and he was penalized for that which did not matter
to him as long as everyone was okay. My mother was not pleased that
the car was fully wrecked but she was just happy that her two babies
were going to be alright.

When
others are not being safe on the road, I do everything possible to
convince them that I could drive since I am more focused on what I am
doing and my surroundings. To continue being safe on the road I take
the following steps: put my phone away in a place I cannot reach
while driving, enforce seatbelts on all my passengers, and never
allow myself to be in a vehicle with someone impaired behind the
wheel.
